Mascot

As far as the taxobox on the top of the page is concerned the entry for "mascot" should be what the sports teams are called at the university, not the name of the character.Dspserpico 08:35, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

I think something should be said about the three new big construction projects that are currently taking place on the Hayward Campus. There is a new Business School, more dorms, and an expansion of the student union building under way that will be finished in the fall of '06. This is the first major addition to the campus in 30 years and will transform the school into less of a commuter school.19 April 2006 134.154.254.60
Mascot and construction info has been updated. (Kvwheeler (talk) 22:50, 9 April 2010 (UTC))

To do

  • Update president's name to Mohammad Qayoumi
  • Number of master's degree programs is unclear (see CSU East Bay website)
  • President's name in right corner
  • reference needed for solar energy panel project
  • reference for assembly member Carlos Bee
  • reference needed for Alameda State College
  • reference for "Hayward Vampires"
  • reference for space suit on mascot
  • President list starts in 1959, but school opened in 1957 - who was president? 13 July 2006 134.154.250.250
All information above has been completed. Note: there was no president between the years of 1957-1957 when the State College for Alameda County was under construction. When the first students enrolled in 1959, Harcleroad was named president. (Kvwheeler (talk) 22:56, 9 April 2010 (UTC))
i feel that information about the new R.A.W enter being build should be mentioned, it has set the school back 30,000,000 it deserves a spot. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Waynesportz (talkcontribs) 14:21, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:CSU.PNG

Image:CSU.PNG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 03:57, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Reorganized History section

As an outside reader, I found it very distracting that the History section seemed to quickly devolve into a lengthy rant about the name change. Without coming down on whether or not the rant was justified, I thought it made sense to put it into its own subsection, with a little reordering at the same time. This meant that the section on community-or-lack-thereof needed to get its own compartment, too. Other than that, I've left the content alone, figuring there are more knowledgable people than I on the topic.--NapoliRoma 19:56, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

The rationale for the name change seems whitewashed, and the only citation is to CSUEB itself. "In 2005, with multiple campuses across the region, the university broadened its mission to serve the eastern region of the San Francisco Bay Area. To reflect a more widespread objective, the school changed its name from California State University, Hayward to California State University, East Bay that same year."

Compare that to the LA Times, which gives the name change quite a different flavor: "The campus president, Norma Rees, pushed for the school between San Jose and Oakland to adopt the new name, which she says better reflects the region it serves. University officials also claimed that the city of Hayward's lingering, but no longer deserved, reputation as a run-down postwar suburb hurt the campus' image." http://articles.latimes.com/2005/jan/27/local/me-hayward27 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2620:0:1000:330B:F9C8:A9DD:33F0:66EB (talk) 17:28, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

Tuition cost

Box needs tuition cost. Badagnani (talk) 22:00, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

I'd have to disagree. {{Infobox University}} does not provide a section for tuition and since tuition information varies from major to major in different universities as well as changing annually, I do not believe that this information would be encyclopedic. I believe if a reader wishes to obtain tuition information on this university, he/she should go to the CSU Hayward/East Bay website instead. It is always better to not have information rather than providing users with outdated information. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 22:10, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Constant undoing of revisions

Revisions are constantly being made that constantly change this Wikipedia article. I feel that, as the page is right now, 08:51, 21 December 2008, that the article is more accurate, grammatically correct, and visually appealing. Rather than going back and forth, lets compromise. I have added a section in the introduction regarding the university's name change to insure that the article is accurate. 71.139.10.181 (talk) 06:19, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

Thats the whole point of WP, as you might have noticed if you bothered to read any of the documentation of this project. I have no doubt the article was better on that date than on previous dates. its better now. if its worse, we can fix it. If there are specific areas of controversy, mention them and some sort of consensus may be reached. we dont "compromise", this is not really a political battle. speaking of which, i deliberately deleted comments posted at this location that were primarily directed at CSUEB administration, not WP, and dont apply here. To any who bother to read the history, may i say: anyone with an account can edit a protected article, unless they are somehow topic banned. protection, semi protection, etc, are useful tools to prevent IP accounts from vandalizing certain articles. i have no doubt that college/univ articles are prime targets for vandalism from students. hey, they're young, they'll grow out of it:)Mercurywoodrose (talk) 06:50, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

Notability of faculty/alumni

Standards for the notable alumni/faculty sections for Cal State U. articles vary widely. this is one of the less rational sections of the lot. using the college's own alumni booster news site as a reference is not very encyclopedic. I've trimmed a few out. third party references are preferred, not primary sources like the school itself. of course the alumni news will feature all alumni, thats its job. I wont go hog wild, as the standards are not really set across the articles, but a lot of them should really go (among the ones without their own articles, that is). My guideline for inclusion in the list is simple to say, hard to apply individually: are they likely to have an article written about them, based on their current notability? Good faith editing, from a neutral point of view, helps distance us from academic boosterismMercurywoodrose (talk) 06:50, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

People continue to use the alumni website as a source to indicate notability. I will insist that this is not sufficient. While the information the alumni site provides is undoubtedly accurate, its not NPOV. They must list any alumni who have any career success. that doesnt qualify as a notable alumnus from our standpoint. if person x is a newscaster at a local tv station, thats great, but are they noted anywhere BESIDES the alumni site and the tv stations website? being listed there is a perk of graduation, not an objective measure of societal notability. PS. i had listed some highly notable faculty that had their own articles, where the articles indicated clearly they were CSUEB faculty, and they were removed (added back by an intelligent, conscientious editor). While we do want references for each fact in this article, regardless of whether that fact is sourced elsewhere, its incredibly poor judgement to remove a valid link just cause someone didnt give a ref here. argumentum ad Hitlerum: would you remove hitler's name from "notable people from austria" just because a source wasnt cited in that section, but his provenance was duly noted in his biographical piece? i think not.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 07:33, 14 March 2012 (UTC)
Good work, nonnotable names removed by someone other than me, so we have some consensus.(mercurywoodrose)99.14.218.50 (talk) 05:17, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
