Untitled[edit]

You must be kidding! How can this be rated START CLASS, there are not even the birth and death dates here, and a lot of wrong statements. The post was NOT abolished, it is presently occupied by Cardinal Lajolo. Kraxler 20:27, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Governorship[edit]

The post was indeed abolished. Read these reliable sources:

Cardinal Lajolo's post is of a different order. The figure of Governor of the Vatican City State is no longer in existence. Cardinal Lajolo's official posts are "Presidente della Pontificia Commissione per lo Stato della Città del Vaticano e Presidente del Governatorato dello Stato della Città del Vaticano". Cardinal Szoka was never a Governor of the Vatican city state either.

From 1952 on, this Commission had exercised all powers de facto, since no Governor had been appointed..."

"...Legislative authority is entrusted permanently, in delegated and collegial form, to a Commission of Cardinals appointed to a five-year term by the Pope and chaired by a Cardinal President (Art. 3-4). As mentioned above, the Commission of Cardinals had existed de facto since 1939 under the name Pontifical Commission for Vatican City State. After 30 years of actual existence and activity, Paul VI determined its areas of competence for the governance of Vatican City State with the Law on the Governance of Vatican City State cited above"...
