Words in bold[edit]

I don't think this article needs this many words in bold. The names of various tracks Canibus has featured on are important, but I think they need to be treated just like any other songs; if no one's against it, I'll change these to standard print. Cromag 12:08, 3 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Beefs[edit]

This article should have a section dedicated to Canibus' beefs with LL Cool J, Blinky Blink, Eminem, M.E.D., Truck Turner, Queen Latifah & Mr. Phace.

  • Canibus has famously had beefs with Eminem and LL, but these sections were stupidly excised for lack of citations because editors, myself included, were too lazy to go out and find them. It's faster to cut stuff out than spend a half-hour on google. For your pleasure, please enjoy the following unsubstantiated rumors.Pisomojado (talk) 08:23, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • For the first part of 1997, he was managed by the Fugees' Wyclef Jean, who was introduced to him by Jay-Z.[citation needed] It was at this time that the intense rivalry between him and rapper LL Cool J began. The battle stemmed from a collaboration with LL titled "4, 3, 2, 1" from LL's 1997 album Phenomenon. LL took offense to the lines, "L, is that a mic on your arm? Let me borrow that", which referenced his tattoo of a microphone on his arm – and which Canibus claimed was his own way of showing the rap veteran respect – and wrote an indirect diss to Williams: "The symbol on my arm is off limits to challengers" and "Now let's get back to this mic on my arm / If it ever left my side, it'd transform into a time bomb / You don't wanna borrow that, you wanna idolize." Before the song was released, LL Cool J asked Canibus to change his lines.[citation needed] Canibus claims that LL vowed to modify his own lines as well, but the later denied this and pointed out that nobody would know who he was talking about if only Canibus' line was changed.[citation needed] The original version eventually leaked, and fans started to piece the lines together.[citation needed]
    • C True Hollywood Stories was the album that brought to light Canibus' rivalry with Hip-Hop superstar Eminem. The beef with Eminem was similar to his rivalry with LL, only less publicized: it stretched back to before the late 90s, when Wyclef heard that Eminem had ghostwritten "The Ripper Strikes Back", LL's response to "Second Round K.O.", and told Canibus to confront him about it. When Bis confronted him, Em didn't like his attitude, so he held it against him. On the CTHS song "U Didn't Care", Canibus takes the roll of Stan, the titular character from the Eminem song of the same name, explaining that he has changed and no longer looks at Em as his role model. While still speaking from the viewpoint of Stan, the song makes an explicit reference to the "Ripper Strikes Back" incident: Clef stepped to him and told him he should step to you / that you was ghostwriting for L, but that wasn't true. The Stan character was referenced throughout the album, often used to mock Eminem. Eminem would later respond simply by referring to him as "Canibitch" on a few songs, with Bis subliminally dissing him on a select number of songs. The only full-fledged diss track to be heard from either of them was Em's "Can-I-Bitch", which was supposedly recorded in 2002 but leaked onto the Internet and file sharing networks in 2004. The song sees Eminem commenting on the rivalry in a humorous tone, with a number of explicit references to Canibus' rapping style. Like the beef with LL, the rivalry with Eminem eventually fizzled out.

I'll find some citations for that section. It occurs to me that Canibus is more known to mainstream culture as result of his beef with Eminem than anything else, surely adequate citations exist. This, of course, requires citations and attention. -- Forridean (T/C) 15:00, 13 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you! I was wondering why was there no mention about it on the main page, as the beef with Em is the only reason I (and many others I'm sure) know who Canibus is. Matronator (talk) 21:54, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A Mistake[edit]

I want to remove this entire section. It's irrelevent in terms of the whole article, and plus it is very nit-picking. Canibus's point was that the surface level of the water would decrease were one able to remove all the sea life. That's it. He used "three quarters water" before just a shorter way of saying 70% or whatever the exact fact is, it's not that important, it's an approximation, and then he used it again to mean it wasn't the same as what he had stated. I know that last sentence is meandering. If no one has any objections to this, I'm going to delete/rewrite the section. JesseRafe 00:48, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Precisely. I fully agree; also, a rather minor mistake in one of the dozens of tracks he recorded is hardly worth mentioning, especially since I'm sure he's made many more minor mistakes in other songs of his. I opt to remove the section primarily due to the mistake's status as just that...a mistake. Cromag 22:05, 22 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is ridiculous.[edit]

I've noticed a tendency in this article for the contributions of anonymous users to far outweigh those of registered Wikipedians. Unfortunately, a large part of the former are additions that are either incorrect – that is, vandalism – or written in a manner unfit for an encyclopedia. I tried to clean up the page as best I could some time ago, but the number of anonymous contributions since then has been a bit too great for me to handle.

I'm pretty sure this happens to other rappers' pages as well, but Canibus is an individual who has a bit of a cult following and those people, I'm guessing, are constantly modifying the article, worsening it in my view. I'd opt for this page being semi-protected to prevent things like this from happening in the future. If there's an important piece of new information on the rapper available, I'm sure Wikipedia's registered users are more than qualified to include it in the article. Cromag 09:29, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I added the page to my watchlist, I'll help keep an eye on it. Tayquan hollaMy work 02:25, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:LL Cool J - Phenomenon.jpg[edit]

Image:LL Cool J - Phenomenon.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:25, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia reference[edit]

I removed the following section from the article: "In his song "Poet Laureate Infinity", Canibus mentions Wikipedia in a not too favorable light with the following passage: Never been a Wikipedia lover. If I were you I wouldn't waste my time reading rubbish, it might turn you into a media puppet, but fuck it"

To be honest I don't care what this artist thinks about wikipedia, but it's not relevant. We can't possibly include every viewpoint of every artist on every subject. Including the artist's views on wikipedia (though they may be negative) is nothing more than an act of self-gratification because by including these views we are affirming the importance of wikipedia over every other viewpoint this person has which wasn't included. Feel free to put it back in, but expect me to ask for a logical reason why it /should/ be there. Mitsein (talk) 04:34, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rip The Jacker 2: Infinity (2011) and Noctoural88[edit]

Hello Nocturnal88, Your revision which you keep replacing is poorly written, hard to read and makes no sense going on about "layers" - that's not a standard term in common use. Try rewriting it in a more coherent manner with sources and references, not just rumors such as it "the album is said" and "the album will reportedly" etc. This is an encyclopedia, not a rumor mill. Repeat, I am not deleting based on content, but on style and verifiability. Thank you. JesseRafe (talk) 03:09, 3 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What about the mixes?[edit]

I see no mention here of Rip the Riptilyan, Rip the Insectoid, or even the revolutionary Evidence of Infinity and Evidence of Infinity 2: The Hypercube. There is also very little content related to the artists vision and depth of content. Poor article altogether. <-- Clearly written by the Ploo Mixer Complex. You are the most egotistical of all the mixers and your not even the best one. You've been mixing for only about a year and yet you don't mention any of the other Ploo mix tapes that the damn mixer pioneers made. What About all the people who mixed years before you and are better at it like Oobe Omni Shan 51 KG Vorple EWS Baal and Xpren. I'm a huge Canibus fan and Ploo fan and i listen to all the mixes and your shit is good and can compete but you wouldn't even exist without the other mixers. To make a comment like the revolutionary EOI is ridiculous and shows you mix for your own fame. There are plenty of mixes that blow yours away. ASIDE from that point WIKI NEEDS to mention Poet Laureate Infinity and all the mixes and mixers because that's probability the Can Mans Biggest Accomplishment. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.86.48.120 (talk) 19:24, 4 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Canibus Vs Dizaster?[edit]

Is it worth including the King of the Dot rap battle that's taking place soon? It's been getting some attention.... http://www.ballerstatus.com/2012/05/10/canibus-headline-upcoming-los-angeles-rap-battle-vendetta-battle-royale/ http://allhiphop.com/2012/05/10/hip-hop-rumors-canibus-is-coming-to-pay-per-view/ http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.19684/title.canibus-to-partake-in-pay-per-view-battle 92.7.92.4 (talk) 15:47, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is this article true? In ictu oculi (talk) 21:14, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It looks reasonable for the most part, except for the album sales. That of course is false. --SubSeven (talk) 00:23, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
