"However, not all such lenses require the shorter back focus, and may feature the standard EF mount."

Any examples? I thought all EF-mount lens were designed for 35mm. (All EF-S lenses are designed for APS-C, of course.) There were a few EF lenses designed for APS film way back when, I believe, but not digital APS-C in particular.

AFAIK, Canon doesn't have any EF (non EF-S) lenses designed for a smaller image circle than 35mm. The kit lenses for the IX and the IX Lite were 22-55 and 24-85 full frame 35mm lenses. Other manufacturers like Sigma and Tamron have APS-C type lenses in regular EF mount, though. mvdhout 01:34, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would love to see a list of pros and cons compared to EF lenses, to help in buying decisions. Also, I have read elsewhere about some sort of "1.6x crop factor" with EF-S lenses -- what is that all about? 76.102.95.104 17:11, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of duplicated information.[edit]

Removed the duplicate information concerning the mounting of the EF-S lens on to bodies that were not designed for it as its well covered in the previous paragraph. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 143.166.255.56 (talk) 14:15, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is not duplicate information. The first paragraph talks about how EF-S lenses will not work on full frame EF mount cameras. The second paragraph talks about how you might be able to get EF-S lenses to work on old APS-C cameras, like the D30 to 10D, and EOS X(lite). I reversed you edit. Technical Drawings?[edit]

Does anyone have technical drawings to accompany this article? I've looked around a bit but haven't found a good drawing anywhere. If anyone knows of a drawing, please add it to this article. neffk (talk) 05:57, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting idea. What exactly were you thinking the drawings would be of? Unfortunately, if there are any drawings out there of such nature, I doubt you could get proper license. It would have to be hand made by one of us. I have thought about making drawings of the EF/EF-S lens mount, as I have Auto CAD, but don't have the tools to make proper measurements. Any drawings I could make, would be "rough", and not accurate enough for encyclopedic standards, IMAO. But maybe something is better than nothing. Thoughts? Telecentricity?[edit]

Are these lenses approximately image-space telecentric? It sounds like some might be. —Ben FrantzDale (talk) 14:15, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Individual Canon lens articles?[edit]

Do we really need one article for each EF-S lens? Since they're all currently stubs except 17-55mm, and since the stats could be summarised into an expanded table on this page, I'm of the opinion we could include any interesting stuff on this page. Thoughts? Jon (talk) 06:23, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Does EF-S fit to APS-H, too?[edit]

It is written that it fits on APS-C and not on 35 mm full frame, but what about APS-H? --92.74.20.221 (talk) 18:59, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

AP-H cameras will not accept EF-S lenses without modification, as stated in the specifications of the 1D mkIV http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras/eos_1d_mark_iv#Specifications 137.99.236.88 (talk) 14:55, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
