Longest in state[edit]

The Neuse River is a major permanent stream rising in the piedmont of North Carolina, emptying into the Pamlico Sound below New Bern. Its total length is approx. 373 km (232 mi), and its drainage basin, measuring 14,582 km² in area, lies entirely inside the state of North Carolina.

The Cape Fear River is a 202-mile (325 km) long blackwater river in east central North Carolina in the United States. It is the longest river entirely within North Carolina, and it flows into the Atlantic Ocean near Cape Fear, from which it takes its name.

Looks to me like the Neuse is the longest river entirely in the state, but the Cape Fear has the largest drainage basin completely within the state. The Columbia Gazetteer entry on the Cape Fear River seems to be in error, saying it is the longest. Compare their pages on Cape Fear River and Neuse River. Other sources such as this one and this other one seem to confirm the numbers. I'll make some edits to the pages here. Good catch. Pfly (talk) 03:28, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Isabel Holmes Bridge crosses the Northeast Cape Fear River, not the Cape Fear River. The S. Thomas Rhodes Bridge was never considered the Parsley Street Bridge, that was the Holmes bridge over the NE Cape Fear.
