1995 Facts[edit]

There are some issues not covered that explain how the Tory sweep happened and helped Carl DeFaria win this nomination and should be mentioned.

Before the writ: The upswing in PC support in Mississauga East was attributed to the John Sola controversy, having said he could not live next to a Serb. Sola was kicked out of the Liberal caucus, and did not run in the next election. The riding's executive committee held an open nomination meeting in April, by doing so signalling to the grassroots of the Reform Party in most ridings that year.

The win: After the televised leaders debate, Liberal support eroded, and the opponent Liberal candidate Konstantine Katsoulis did not show up for the last debate of the circuit where Carl DeFaria declared himself the winner.
