References[edit]

I have relied primarily on references from the Norwegian press, and especially from Thomassen's own employer, Dagbladet. References from foreign (and particularly English-language) press should also be included to improve balance. The Norwegian Wikipedia article references a couple of BBC reports which may be useful.

Unsurprisingly, Norwegian press coverage has been extensive, and I may have included information sourced from radio reports or other articles than the ones referenced. I would be grateful to anyone who either provides references, or marks any such information with a {{Fact}} tag so I can look it up.

I've added some more information and English-language references, including a statement from the International Press Institute. Reporters Without Borders has also issued a statement, but I decided to leave it out as it contains factual errors.

This needs more information about his life, rather than his death[edit]

If he was a highly respected journalist, this needs to be demonstrated in terms of work he did during his life.--h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 00:11, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He was highly respected in Norway, at least, as several of the Norwegian-language references I've given show. I'll see if I can dig up references showing that he was also respected outside of Norway. DES (talk) 12:35, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Picture[edit]

I have contacted Thomassen's employer to obtain a picture of him, and am currently awaiting confirmation that it can be used under cc:sa or cc:by-sa. DES (talk) 12:42, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If we obtain that picture, it would go nicely also on 2008 in Norway. __meco (talk) 19:59, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Support for nomination of deletion.[edit]

If someone nominates this article for deletion, then they hereby have my support.

There are many journalists who should have articles, but I have my doubts about the notability of his death. And I have my doubts that he was notable enough as a commentator, to have his own article.

As we say on wikipedia in Norwegian, "a man with a job"—who unfortunately died on the job. Only one of a few (?) thousand who were shot to death in Afghanistan that year.

(The most notable text and references can be merged into other articles.) --Sywoofer (talk) 12:15, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, so I have nominated it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Carsten Thomassen (journalist). __meco (talk) 11:22, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
