Problems with sources[edit]

Claim: "He first joined RTÉ as a radio researcher in 1974."
Source: "He worked as a researcher on several RTÉ radio programmes before getting his first job on the Nuacht desk in the newsroom in 1975."

Claim: "In 1974, he worked at the nuacht desk for five years."
Source: "on the Nuacht desk in the newsroom in 1975." and "Cathal worked as a reporter with RTÉ's Belfast staff for six years."

Oh you're over here now... anyone would think you were trying to do this with as little transparency as possible... I'm only replying just in case someone sees this before Ottava's other comments (now spread over so many pages I can hardly keep up) but if you altered those sources to include those exact points which are not accurate enough for Ottava, he would then (quite rightly, naturally enough) do you for plagiarism... so you're damned if you do, damned if you don't... anyway, please stick to the deletion discussion Ottava. --can dle •wicke 20:16, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The quotes above stating that they are from the sources used are attributing the sources, in quotations, and completely acceptable under fair use. Quoting original sources to check for accuracy is 100% acceptable. I was one of the ones that crafted the plagiarism guideline and have dealt with such issues for a very long time here. Well actually there are 6. Northern Ireland is part of the island of Ireland, divided to the Republic of Ireland and the North. The North is part of the United Kingdom. Belfast is where the Northern Ireland Assembly sits, making it the administrative city (and largest). Please read the three articles on Ireland, the Republic of, and the North. Well Fox News don't have their UK correspondent in Stroke-on-Trent. Sky News don't have their USA Correspondent in Kentucky. Like RTÉ would have its Northern staff in Portrush. Most news broadcasting services and and networks tend to base their staff in capital cities... or in our case the capital of a country part of the United Kingdom. In this story, RTÉ move to their new studio in Belfast. Please read the second paragraph. This new studio then became the new home, remaining RTÉ's Northern office. (By the way, you claim to "know all about Ireland". That statement is untrue, as you claim Ireland has two islands. Last time I looked my island, it wasn't split into two separate islands . Ireland has 32 counties in total. 4 provinces. 6 of those counties are part of the North. The provinces are Leinster, Munster, Connacht and Ulster. Brian Cowen is our Taoiseach. Mary McAleese is our president. I am in Dublin the capital city. This is where Dáil Éireann and Seanad Éireann sit. In the north the Northern Ireland assembly sit in Stormont, Belfast. Peter Robinson is the First Minister and Martin McGuinness is the deputy first minister. The Queen is the head of state. The Normans took over Ireland in 1166, when Dermot MacMurrough invited Richard de Clare, the 2nd Earl of Pembroke to come to Ireland to help him regain his kingdom of Leinster. We suffered under Penal Laws, the Red Coats, we couldn't practice our religions or speak our native tongue. Therefore we now speak English. All Irish Catholics were banished to the west. There was a famine, which wiped out half of our population. There was an rising in 1916. All the leaders were executed by the British. Their was a war of independence. We regained 26 counties, dividing the Irish Free State and the North. There was a civil war. In 1937 we became a republic. There was trouble in the North. Another civil war. There were terrorist attacks nearly every day. They signed the Good Friday agreement. We are now in recession after the Celtic Tiger. It is nearly 11am here. I am explaining Ireland on Wikipedia.
