Is there a good reason why that monstrosity of a list is in this article? Fightindaman 22:05, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

Or why genres are listed when this is presumably a list of Celtic Rock? Most genres are happy with a few examples. Perhaps it should be kept to that. Maybe make sure they are spread over a number of decades. 149.159.112.45 01:26, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Definition

I'm not happy with the definition as it stands, and I would like to see a reference for the assertion that Horslips were the first to name the genre. "Celtic" in modern usage means more than the Ancient Celts, and much music that involves the lives of Modern Celts is considered Celtic. Thus, there's no reason a band like The Pogues - who sung frequently about Irish matters - should be considered less Celtic simply because they were focused on the present. Similarly, I see no reason Horslips' "driving hard rock" is more suited towards being real "Celtic Rock" than the blues influenced music of L&L era Fairport. 149.159.112.45 01:30, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Anglo-Celtic

Many of the groups listed here are English and sing English folk songs. I can see three possibilities:

1. This page should be called "Anglo-Celtic folk rock"
2. This is really an article about British folk rock -- however, this doesn't seem likely either, because some of the bands listed probably don't fall under that category
3. This page should have some material moved to British folk rock, and reference that

Thin Lizzy?

I think that Thin Lizzy can come under this classification, at-least partly. For anyone who knows their stuff, Songs like Whiskey in the Jar and Emerald are Definitely in the Genre of Celtic rock (as well as several others I probably can't think of now). I'm gonna go ahead and add them in, so, any opinions? --Hibernian 07:53, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Definition (again)

Does the citation defining Celtic rock ("The style of music is the hybrid of traditional Irish, Scottish Gaelic and Breton musical forms with rock music.") specifically exclude music from Wales, Cornwall and the Isle of Mann? Or is it an error of omission (ignorance)? It seems odd not to include the other Celtic nations otherwise. Daicaregos (talk) 13:21, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

Good point. It looks like I put that in the major clean up last year and to be honest I cannot remember how I got to the article and it would take me quite a lot of effort to get hold of a hard copy. I suggest we just look for some new sources of definition. I will try to find some time to see whether the term is used in the limited or broader sense. I suspect this may be due to the fact that Ireland, Scotland and Britanny were the main areas of production.--SabreBD (talk) 14:16, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

The problem is that the reference only refers to Celtic music in general, not Celtic rock as such. However, how about this one.[1]--SabreBD (talk) 21:42, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

It wouldn't pass WP:RS, as it is self-published. I notice that they mentioned The rough guide to World Music defined the term, but I couldn't find it in the limited preview. I'll check out my local library to see if they have it. Daicaregos (talk) 00:58, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
