Controversy[edit]

Regarding General Gerhardt's skill, R. Weigly's classic Eisenhower's Lieutenant's quoted a coeval general who said he was the finest infantry tactician in NW Europe. It may balance the article somewhat to include favorable opinions towards him. If editor(s) would like to see the citations I can give it.
