Pronunciation[edit]

According to the article on Memphis Jug Band, his surname is pronounced Bursey. Is this correct? Should it be mentioned in this article? Jwicklatz (talk) 06:20, 24 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

That's not correct, and I removed that from the Memphis Jug Band article. The "bursey" pronunciation comes from an interview with Will Shade where he pronounced it that way, but other sources -- the 1958 Blues Street video, and Burse's granddaughter when I spoke with her -- indicate that it rhymes with "purse." Intro Paragraph[edit]

This said "best known for his skill with the ukulele," but he never recorded with ukulele. He's really best known for his work with the Memphis Jug Band, where he played guitar, tenor guitar and mandolin, so I'm changing that. ArloLeach (talk) 02:09, 28 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Edits and additions[edit]

A couple of the edits by Nyoome on 6 May 2021 changed the meaning and introduced errors: 1) Burse did not record on spoons, 2) the "irrepressible" quote was from Roger Brown, not Will Shade. I fixed those, restored the comments about his relationship with Will Shade, which is supported by citations, and tweaked some grammar and style. I also added some info about his family (parents, children and siblings) and the quote about Elvis. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ArloLeach (talkcontribs) 08:18, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
