I agree, I came looking for who profits from the scheme, as obviously the childcare voucher companies profit somehow, but the information reads like it's from an HMRC leaflet. I'll return if I manage to find anything useful. Having dealt with these people for a while now I can see no reason for this scheme to exist. 77.86.45.106 (talk) 13:16, 20 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

origins of the Childcare Vouchers Scheme[edit]

The first Childcare Voucher scheme was launched in October 1989 by Sue Harvey, the Managing Director of Luncheon Vouchers Ltd. (now known as Edenred) It received wide media coverage at the time. Growth was slow until the introduction of a employee tax and NI exemption introduced by Gordon Brown in 2003. (Author Sue Harvey, the original developer of the first Childcare Voucher Scheme. Sue's work in promoting Private and Voluntary Childcare cooperation was recognised when she was chosen as one of thirty Pioneers who had the most impact on Working Parents in the 30 years of the

organisation Parents at Work led by Sarah Jackson. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Georgeandnellie (talkcontribs) 11:09, 7 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Childcare Voucher Schemes close to new members in October 2018[edit]

From 4th October 2018 all Childcare Voucher Schemes will close to new members. Those already in a Childcare Voucher Scheme will not be affected and can continue to to use the scheme that is provided by their employer. The cessation of Childcare Voucher Schemes was originally due on 6th April 2018 but in March 2018 the UK Government announced an extension of six months.

The Childcare Voucher Scheme is being replaced by a new scheme called Tax-Free Childcare.
