proposed deletion[edit]

I've proposed delition of this page as it's in a bit of state (several sections have no content, and there seems to be a history of problems with advertising / neutral point of view). If you're working on the page, my apologies.

Added some criticism of Christian Aid[edit]

I have added links to NGO Monitor criticism of Christian Aid and to transcripts of UK parliamentary committee discussion of Christian Aid. Perhaps some of what they do is not so good!?75.84.97.215 06:48, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

POV[edit]

This article has some areas containing overt bias I'm afraid, anyone kind enough to do a re-write? e.g. "Christian Aid works where the need is greatest, regardless of religion or race." Lifted directly from CA press releases. 86.16.135.211 (talk) 23:18, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The above example seems to have been changed to "Christian Aid states [that] it works..." [my emphasis], but the problem in general has not been dealt with. For example:

- "Christian Aid has fought poverty for more than 65 years."

- "Christian Aid's essential belief is summed up in the statement 'We believe in life before death' ..."

- "A significant percentage of the income comes from the thousands of individuals in churches and communities who care passionately about tackling poverty."

and many other statements come across as advertising. The inclusion of a link a web site associated with the group, "Present Aid," which exists solely to sell stuff, also seems inappropriate. The only citations in the article are in the "Criticism" section, but the rest of the material seems to come entirely from the group's own literature. Surely this would not be not acceptable, even if it were cited.

I'm not sure why there are links to all these other sites besides the main Christian Aid site. They seem irrelevant, containing little or no information about the group's activities. At the very least the "Present Aid" link (mentioned above) ought to be removed, I should think. It seems to me that the link to the main site should be sufficient.

Also, I changed the main site link from http://www.christianaid.org.uk/ to http://www.christianaid.org.uk/home.aspx. When I had tried clicking on the pre-edit link, I was redirected to http://www.caweek.org/, a donation-soliciting site. This is evidently a fund-raising drive ("Chritian Aid Week") that happens to be going on right this week (so it may not always redirect you), but still, the link in the Wikipedia article ought to actually take the user to the Christian Aid home page and not, potentially, to some other page that might lead to confusion.174.111.242.35 (talk) 04:43, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Views on GMOs[edit]

More on its earlier history, please[edit]

Apart from the infobox stating its year of foundation as 1941, the page seems to begin the story post Vietnam War. More material would be welcome to fill us in on its development, as this was begun during WWII and it makes this organisation a little older than Oxfam (ne Oxford Famine Relief, which began collecting for people starving in Greece at end of that war).Cloptonson (talk) 19:46, 15 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
