Untitled

Why is there an editorial on this page? That seems to completely violate NPOV for no reason whatsoever. Could the original author please justify this?

I have no idea either. If you think it's not appropriate then remove the editorial and paste it in to this talk page. I can help you do that if you like, just ask. --Commander Keane 10:44, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

Editorial

For the sake of discussion (just in case someone thinks it should stay), here is the editorial I just removed:

Save the Master's Programs!

During the 2000-2001 school year CNU president Paul Trible attempted to cut the Master's programs in Computer Science, Physics and Biology. He was met with steep resistance both from the students and faculty. Despite this public outcry, for most of the year, he continued to go forward with his proposed cuts. Students (specifically those from the Computer Science, Computer Engineering and Physics departments) led by Dr. Webb rallied to save their beloved programs. Demonstrators went so far as to march through the administration building carrying signs and chanting slogans. Eventually Dr. Webb and others provided financial data which proved that the Master's programs were actually making money and that enrollment had steadily increased since the programs inception. Faced with the facts, and discouraged by the protest, President Trible relented and the programs were saved.

Retribution

"EDITORIAL" follows: Unfortunately though the programs were saved, the fight was not over. President Trible is actually a very mean-spirited, petty man and his ego could not abide the humiliation he had been dealt when his plan was defeated. So, after classes let out for the summer, Trible stripped Dr. Webb of his status and placed him in a powerless position created just for him. President Trible's goal was to humiliate Dr. Webb and hopefully drive him to quit his position all together. When the Fall semester came the students and faculty finally learned what the President had done. Enraged that such a highly regarded professor would be treated in such a way Dr. Beach, the chair of the Math, Physics and Computer Science Department, wrote President Trible a very "strongly worded" letter castigating him for his unfair treatment of Dr. Webb. Shortly after receiving the letter the President replied to Dr. Beach. In his letter he informed the Chair of the Department that his degree did not match the subject matter in which he was teaching. Furthermore, his degree did not qualify him for a job at the University and so, at the end of the current school year, he would be terminated. It should be noted that Dr. Beach had spent most of the 20+ years of his professional career working for NASA. Before retiring he was the number two person in charge of the NASA Langley Research Center. In short, he was one of, if not the most, highly trained and experienced professor at CNU. Not willing to take such a slap in the face sitting down, at the end of the Fall semester Dr. Beach quit the University on his own, leaving his classes for the Spring untaught and with no one scheduled to fill them. President Trible was quite surprised that Dr. Beach would choose to quit in the middle of the year and so he quickly scrambled to cover his classes by forcing other teachers to fill in as best they could. It was at this point that many of the best professors within the science departments left CNU for more promising, and stabler, opportunities. Dr. Beyon was one of the first to leave. Thus within a year of the President Trible's irrational push to destroy the Master's program, he had managed to fire, drive off or insult most of the best professors who ever worked their. Let it be known to all, that this is quite bias and actually has nothing to do with the standards of this university.

Parking

Due to inept planning, parking prices have continued to rise each year for the past 5 years. As of the 2005-2006 school year a parking pass was $200 and this price is expected to rise to $250 by next year. Additionally there are no separate commuter and resident lots, forcing commuters to park where ever they can.

Crime in and around CNU

CNU has been named among the top 5 safest campuses in the South- which in Newport News, Virginia, is no small feat.

Santoro bias

Does anybody find this appropriate? It is a point of view, generally of students who live in the building.

"Though similar in design, Santoro Hall is considered by many students to be the preferred building of residence."

Can anybody think of a reason to include it?

Academic Departments

Hey, If anybody reads this, I wouldent mind some feedback on the academic departments section. I originially had them all in a list. I was trying to make the page flow a little better and be a little interesting so i broke it into paragraphs. IFC Fraternities

I removed the

entry that was added to the list of IFC fraternities. The list did not specify that it was IFC fraternitiys. Phi Beta Sigma is NPHC listed, and is shown in the 3rd colum (dident leave them out). If there is a reason why they should be included in the IFC fraternity list, I am all ears. --Chris Kreider - HFF 01:26, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Sigma Tau Gamma

Somebnody keeps adding Sigma Tau Gamma to the list. There are several fraternities that are "underground" and are not sanctioned by the school. As far as i know, this fraternity is not recognized by the school and should not be in the list. Is it according to CNU though? Im not trying to be a stickler, and i respet your fratneral pride, trust me i would want mine up there. It is an article about CNU so i would just like to make sure that it is recogniaed by the school. Last i checked it was not on the CNU greek life page but i can check again! I am not a Sigma Tau Gamma, but an article in a recent "Captain's Log" confirmed that Sig Tau has regained recognition. Dave Porter

They have been currently recognized by CNU as a fraternity since 2006. http://studentlife.cnu.edu/greeklife/chapters.htm Please note they are listed on CNU's official page for fraternities.

Exceptional? Sports

Seems pretty NPOV, and CNU hasn't done all that well in the NACDA President's Cup which measures overall athletic performance. 34th last year is very good but not "exceptional". If CNU was consistenly in the top ten, OK, exceptional, but it's not.

rivalries

Let's not define "rivalries" unless they're widely acknowledged by both parties. I've got a rivalry with Stephen Hawking as a physicist, but he doesn't acknowledge it (because he sucks!).130.76.32.15 19:31, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

I've been at CNU since 2003 and I have never once heard anyone say "Taj MahPaul" in reference to the new library.

IFC Fraternities / Psi Upsilon

I removed Psi Upsilon from the listing of NIC (IFC) fraternities on-campus at Christopher Newport University. There is an unrecognized, "underground" Psi U operating at CNU with great success, however, they are not recognized and therefore should not be present on CNU's Wikipedia page. If they have gained official recognition from the University since the end of the 2009-2010 school year, I apologize, but I do not believe that's the case. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.166.121.180 (talk) 02:01, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Ferguson center neutrality issues.

There seems to be a vague problem with neutrality throughout the entire campus section, but it is especially prevalent in the Ferguson center section. If it is going to claim to be an international force and features the finest artists it should at least cite sources. In "History": what does this mean?

In the History section, this sentence appears. My emphasis in bold:

The college was founded as an extension of the College of William & Mary and offered extension courses that had already been unavailable in the area for some time.

I am going to assume that the courses had indeed been available. It's the most logical thing and will edit section accordingly.
