crime city?[edit]

The city has a reputation in Paraguay as being a dangerous city with high crime rates. it says..

Here in Paraguay it doesn't have that reputation; I'll say Pedro Juan Caballero does so.

The stereotype Paraguayans have about the city is that of being a center of forgery, black market, piratería and a very dynamic city with cosmopolitan culture.

Now I think, those indeed are crimes too. But the text gives the idea of danger of being murdered and stuff.

As a resident alien in Ciudad del Este since 1998 I can say this city isn't more dangerous than the nearby Foz do Iguacu (Brazil). Smuggling is a wide-spread crime here... a way of living I would say, but that doesn't make it dangerous for tourists who come here by the thousands daily for shopping purposes. It is a frontier-city no different from other cities like Tihuana on the U.S.-Mexican border for example.

Ciudad del Este is actually struggling to change its bad reputation with the help of the Brazilian government who is making big efforts to curb down smuggling. Many local bussiness are starting to change their focus from selling mercandises to smugglers to genuine occasional travelers that visit the Iguassu Falls but the outcome of this process may take much time since corruption among Paraguayan and Brazilian costumes and tax officers is still rampant.

I would like to include my page about Ciudad del Este as an external link if the editor considers it of value to Wiki visitors. I think it will be a contribution to help change Ciudad del Este's bad image without ignoring its reality. Incorrect location[edit]

The Lat Lon grid given for the city is incorrect. "Ciudad del Este is the capital of Alto Paraná department, in Paraguay, situated at 25°42′S 54°63′W."

There are only 60 minutes in a degree.

Corrected to 25.42ºS 54.63ºW
