Talk:Civil Rights Game

Let me begin by saying that I'm a complete newbie, and have never participated in this process before, so please forgive my mistakes. Aftert reading the Wikipedia page on The Civil Rights Game, I felt that this page could use discussion and editing. The issues I observed with the page are as follows:

1. *The opening paragraph suffers from giving "undue weight." It does not fully articulate significance of the game, it's development, history, and current context, as well as all of the reasons MLB decided to undertake the Civil Rights Game (contributions/critique welcomed). If a neutral point of view is one of Wikipedia's three core content policies, the tone of this paragraph is somewhat negative in highlighting both contrasting, and secondary results of the survey, alongside the initial presentation/definition of the game. It uses what was perhaps the final impetus for initating the game-a survey-as the cause. *The cause for this game is clearly multifaceted, involving historical, social, cultural, and racial issues that go far beyond a baseball stadium, and yet involve the place of baseball itself within our society today (contributions/critique welcomed). A more objective, NPOV would have incorporated and articulated these causes and issues as part of an objective initial presentation of the game, after which, critiques (including surveys) of the Civil Rights Game could be presented (perhaps under a separate content heading).

2. The Second paragraph suffers from "WP: ASF." It assumes that the sole cause of decline in African Americans is due to an increase in other ethnic groups (*during a time when I believe the MLB has expanded its franchises-obviously not existing as a zero-sum game for potential participants). *I think very many experts on sports, society, and baseball would offer many more reasons in addition. (contributions/critique welcomed).

3. The third paragraph references an AP article on the Lapchick diversity survey again. It refers to an A+ grade for players, and a lesser grading to Administrative offices, I read this as the reverse. ( I could be very well mistaken, please feel free to contribute/critique).

Forgive any WP mistakes I might have made here. I thought that the narrowness of focus within this article needed an immediate response. Due to both time constraints and newness, I did not have time to cover more supporting sources and references (I see (just now) WP: Verifibility weakness here. however, including more supporting sources and opinions is quite easy on this topic) but invite others to do so. I have spent a bit of time earnestly commenting/critiquing here. And I hope what I have put down, won't be written off as what I just realized may or may not be considered, "speculative text". Why no 2016 game?

Can someone knowledgeable add a subsection about why the 2016 game was not played? Dave (talk) 00:14, 5 November 2016 (UTC)
