Withdrawn Link: thelakesanddales.com[edit]

I have removed this link as it makes no mention of Clapham, and it only has a short generic piece on the Yorkshire Dales. It appears that the main purpose of the site is commercial, and it is currently very embryonic.Langcliffe (talk) 13:32, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Famous People[edit]

"Clapham is also home to the lead singer of the band EMF"

If this is the case, why not name the person?--Langcliffe (talk) 16:20, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not quite sure how encyclopeadic it is to include people who just 'happen' to live in the village in the article, seems like an invasion of privacy to me. That's not say notable people who contributed to the village (like Reginald Farrer) shouldn't be included. But retired pop stars or eminent playwrights in a country holiday home? extraordinary (talk) 16:56, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree - I deliberately left out this section when compiling the page for my village, as I knew that at least one of the people concerned would not thank me (and the village wouldn't want to be overrun by trekkies!). It's one thing for someone well known to be listed as a resident of a city, another to be listed in a village of just a couple of hundred people.

In the Clapham case, I thought there was a distinct possibility that it was a vanity entry. All in all, I felt it to be a non-useful addition to the page. If there is no objection in the new few days, I'll delete it.--Langcliffe (talk) 19:55, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have now removed the Alan Bennet and retired pop star references as discussed above.--Langcliffe (talk) 16:48, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reginald Farrer[edit]

Quote "The notable botanist Reginald Farrer (1880–1920)[4] was born and lived in Clapham"

He was born in Marylebone, check his wikipedia page you clowns! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.35.80.188 (talk) 08:01, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

He was brought up in Clapham, on the family estate. I've changed the text. You could have done that yourself. That's the advantage (and the problem) of an encyclopaedia that anyone can edit. Dbfirs 09:35, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah? Well I used to do that then I got into a load of stick from you lot when you didn't like what I'd done. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.35.80.188 (talk) 09:46, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not surprised that you "got into a load of stick" if you called other editors "clowns". The error was an easy one to make, since the family home was at Ingleborough Hall at the time of birth, and other websites have made the same mistake. The aim of a good "wiki" encyclopaedia is to provide references to confirm the facts. You will be aware the the Wikipedia article on Reginald Farrer contained the same error until recently when someone (perhaps you?) made the correction and provided a reference. Diddums-Widdums, did the nasty little girl call the editors 'clowns' how dare she!?!? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.35.80.188 (talk) 10:14, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't call you a "nasty little girl". Dbfirs 17:40, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It's a good job you didn't but typical of you people with your superior attitude because you edit a few Wiki pages to label people internet Trolls just cos you can't get your facts right — Preceding unsigned comment added by 147.98.1.13 (talk) 15:11, 10 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"You people"? Dbfirs 21:13, 10 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
