The History of Rodeo[edit]

Giants2008 Hi, a suggestion. If you are going to talk about Carr's achievements in the now defunct Rodeo Association of America (RAA), you should probably explain that the Cowboy Turtle Association (CTA) and the Rodeo Association of America merged together to become the PRCA, History of rodeo section "Rodeo after World War II" which is what exists today. Your average rodeo fan is lucky to know anything about the PRCA, let alone these associations from long ago. The PRCA recognizes Carr's five world championships, won prior to its existence, which should be documented in this article.

Now, since I am the one who is bringing this up, I am happy to be bold and make the changes, but I really thought you should know about this one first. I wanted to know your thoughts about it. The book preview you used to write about Clay makes it difficult to see the whole history of these associations. "Wild Ride..."     • I looked in a few different books to find out what happened with the old associations, as it was highly confusing. It seems that, after some disputes between the RAA and CTA, the RAA merged with a different organization in 1946,[1] only for what was left of the RAA to later merge with the RCA.[2] At least that's what the books are saying. Anyway, the most important thing for this article is that the PRCA clearly recognizes Carr's titles, as you said. A brief explanation of this is now in the article.       • Keeping the RAA adding the PRCA was what I meant, so that is nice, I liked reading that history. The books you use are helpful to a degree. One of them is hard to follow because of so many missing pages in the preview. However, I also found this link on the Prorodeo Hall of Fame web site, keeping in mind that this is is owned and operated by the PRCA: [3]. With this link and the other one-History of the PRCA, it provides a pretty full picture of the association history. Just wanted you to know that you don't need to rely on a book preview where the main subject is not rodeo history and its associations. I trust sources like historical societies and encyclopedic sources more myself. Also, the PRCA can be trusted, it has the written documentation kept by itself and the associations, plus it agrees with the historical entities below. In the meantime, I shall see if I can locate any more reliable sources. I will also take a look at the library where I live. It's great for Western subjects because I live in Cheyenne, Wyoming. I have been there before, and there are tons of rodeo books. Since this is a big rodeo town, I expect there would be some rodeo history books.

These web sites pretty much all agree on the history of rodeo organizations, including what happened to the RAA, and are solid sources:
