Murders[edit]

Education[edit]

As much as I like to think the following sentence is true.

The city is particularly noted for its high school, Clear Lake High School, widely considered to be one of the best high schools in the state.

Until there is some official evidence to support CLHS's ranking in the state I think it would be more honest to just say "better" for the time being. A co-worker of mine claims to have recently done some research on local HS rankings and CLHS was currently only regarded as "acceptable" and did not have the prestigious ranking it once held. So, unfortunately, this addition is simply a matter of opinion without some supporting evidence, which I'd love to see but until then.


Mark Pritchard: I agree. This report by Texas A&M's Texas Education Excellence Project: The Best Texas High Schools in 2005 -- does not mention Clear Lake High School at all. Merge proposal: "Galveston Bay Area" with "Greater Houston"[edit]

Some editors have proposed merging the Galveston Bay Area article with the Greater Houston article. If you with to share your thoughts please comment there.

Sorry, but I don't understand why this is being merged. Clear Lake City is partially in Houston and the other municipalities. Shouldn't we have unique articles for each? Clear Lake City, Texas really doesn't exist. Do you guys mean to merge both Clear Lake City articles to Clear Lake City (Texas)? We could move this to "Clear Lake City" instead. Anyway, the thing is that the parts in Houston and in Pasadena are/were in the same development, so I don't see why we have to have separate articles for pieces of the same community. Also the individual portions of CLC in Houston and in Pasadena have much in common (history, education systems, etc), so having them separate would have a lot of redundancies. Can we move this article to "Clear Lake City" without the Texas part in it? Since it is not a city, we don't have to follow the "city, state" naming convention. In addition, there is no other Clear Lake City in the U.S. so there would not be a need for disambiguation. I would support the move to just "Clear Lake City" for simplicity. When you look at other similar master planned communities and subdivisions within Houston, they are listed by Community name, Houston. ie: Montrose, Houston, Kingwood, Houston, Highland Village, Houston. Since Clear Lake City sits within several cities, there needs to be some distinction. CLC is not a Census Designated Place, as far as I know, nor does it have any legal structure other than, say, the Clear Lake City Water Authority. That said, leaving it by itself Clear Lake City with no identifier, is improper. This is why I am supportive of the CLC, Greater Houston option.
Clear Lake City, Greater Houston is OK, however I ask that editors also look at Kingwood, Houston, Texas. Both were founded by Friendswood Development Company and have had similar legal issues w/ the city of Houston (and I think they're both in the same gerrymandered council district too) --Nsaum75 (talk) 05:12, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We are the only one that have "Clear Lake City" as a full name. There are others but they don't have "City" as part of their names. There is a disambiguation page for "Clear Lake." —RJN (talk) 07:07, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
(undent) Two comments:
  • Personally since Clear Lake City is not a major world city it seems inappropriate to have the article named simply "Clear Lake City" regardless of whether or not there is currently another place named "Clear Lake City." I personally like "Clear Lake City, Greater Houston." I'd even be ok with merging to "Clear Lake, Houston" though that is slightly misleading.
  • There actually is a town named Clear Lake on Lavon Lake near Dallas.[3][4] The Clear Lake, Texas article should probably actually be refering to that (does anyone disagree??). But definitely I think the "City" qualifier is important in whatever name the this article gets merged to (though I don't know for a fact, my guess is the very reason CLC has preserved the "City" on the name is to disambig with the North Texas town).

The only thing now it really wasn't merged, like all of information that was in each cities pages like Pasadena-Clear Lake was left out. Undid revision 339957150 by Mcorazao (talk)rm WP:TOPIC. If this article not sufficiently large in scope, suggest metro houston. "Near" brings in everything in metro houston

First, some of the cultural activities mentioned occur both in and outside CLC (e.g. the Gulf Coast Film Festival) and some occur in adjacent areas. So the "near" qualifier is necessary so as not to be misleading with the content that was put there.

Regardless, the reason that this is a problem is not really clear. "Near" is equivalent to "everything in metro Houston"? I can't imagine anybody interpreting the word in that way. Based on previous discussions this appears (to me) to be a case of WP:POINT and perhaps has nothing to do with this particular article. But if there is something more to this please share.

Material needs to be on WP:TOPIC. If "near" activities are to be included, that would mean no clear boundaries in an article (the reason for WP:TOPIC) and everything nearby would be included in everything else. I monitor a number of articles. In certain scenic places, you would swear that the only reason for going there was so you could see into the next county. Or the only reason for living in x, is so you could attend event y in an adjacent city.
We need to give the topic of the article a chance to prove itself. That is the one allowable pov in Wikipedia - to first allow the topic to develop itself as a "great" place or a "great" person and go on from there with criticism or whatever. But an article can never reach maturity if we keep diverting to material that doesn't belong in the article.
The whole idea of Clear Lake City (greater Houston) was to provide editors with sufficient scope so vague boundaries could be violated. Apparently this was insufficient and now we need a "CLR (even greater Houston, maybe all of Harris County?)".
Basically, the scope of an article should be clear. If article boundaries are insufficient in scope it seems to indicate that the article should be abandoned or expanded. Student7 (talk) 14:09, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Putting out fires[edit]

A respected editor has added a LOT of detail about the fire department. I think a bit too much. Money is important, but not necessarily the loving detail about which station number it is. Fairly unusual. Not sure where to cut exactly. Student7 (talk) 12:30, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I live here and that seems way to much information about a firestation.

Parks[edit]

Are Sylvan Rodriguez Park and the Rec Center really the only parks worth mentioning here? What about Clear Lake Park, the Armand Bayou Nature Center, and Bay Area Park? Additionally that page doesn't exist and I'm not familiar whether he is actually notable, so I deleted that entry for now.
