Club Kid, a member of a group of young New York City dance club personalities in the late 1980s and early 1990s, known for their flamboyant behavior and outrageous costumes.

Heatherette[edit]

The only member of Heatherette who was a Club Kid is Richie Rich. Richie did not meet Trevor Raines until the late 90's, after the Club Kid craze, when he was working as a Personal Assistant. Trevor was the riding instructor of Richie's employers child. So I believe it should be changed to Richie Rich (of Heatherette). Any objections?

"Club Kids" was a term that actually started in the early eighties[edit]

There were several groups of young "club kids" who were encouraged by managers to come to the clubs and spread the word. There were quite a number at Danceteria known as "Rudolph's club kids" - always let in ahead of the lines, never paid a cover and received comlementary drink tickets or just didn't get charged by the bartenders. Michael Alig and the regulars at Limelight (just 'round the corner) were seen by some as poseurs, late comers and no longer part of the avant garde / underground music movement. Club Kid Lifestyle[edit]

Club Kid's are still out there today. They're flamboyant and very expressive in everything they do. Club kids don't like to be fitted into a box, they want to draw outside the lines and express their purest selves. It's an artistic and fashion-forward way to allow free form of speech.

Club kids favored the music genre, House. Back in the day, a lot of drugs were being done by Club Kids such as ecstasy. The club kids dressed over the top, in unique rambunctious outfits and costumes. The rave scene they all started had a open equality among all individuals.

The Rise of the Club Kid[edit]

Even though there was a decline in the culture as the new New York Mayor, Rudolph Guiliani, in 1994. The culture didn't die down. The movement eventually spread all over. Rupaul Charles, one of the originals, had started his own television show "Rupaul's Drag Race" which gave the movement some sort of light. Over the years it's gained attention and eventually started coming up on the rise. Not to say that the reason it started becoming popular was because of him but that people didn't let it die down, they wanted to bring it back as it should've stayed in the first place.
