Role[edit]

The role of this organisation is supposedly port and harbour security. Yet the title implies coasts and rivers? What is going on?203.184.41.226 (talk) 23:14, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Its roots are from the vietnam war, however after the conflict the navy dropped those duties. the coast guard and the reserves maintained those duties however.[1] after the USS Cole was bombed the navy looked to provide support in the form of escort vessels. the coast guard trained navy personnel to fill these roles, as well as the reserves being called into action. the reserves mainly had focused on the combat roles, while the coast guard had focused on the security roles which are now in demand.[2] thus the command is rooted in the river patrol type mentality, but are performing maritime security. this is what i have been told when asked (from multiple sources) while in the command. also note that this is the command that was in charge during the recent iranian incident (CRS-3 of CRG-1).[3] the reserve squadron is CRS-1, broken up into different companies around the country. 73.162.148.95 (talk) 16:52, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
