Death?[edit]

In a pub quiz yesterday (the 29th of November) one question hinged on the fact that this character had died. Is this true? If so surely it should be mentioned in the article? If not I know a pub that owes me a drink. MagicBez 18:08, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My quote[edit]

I'm unsure as to why my CBG quote "Oh, I've wasted my life" was removed. IMO, it's a memorable one that aptly sums him up as a character. Any opinions on this? I won't re-add it on fear of sparking a revert war, but I'd like to know the reasons. --Psyk0 12:48, 11 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, sorry, it seemed like vandalism. We get a lot of Simpsons vandalism and sometimes I (for one) just revert instead of fixing things. The quote is from a Halloween episode when France bombs Springfield, not the juicer/virus episode. Adam Bishop 16:26, 11 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]


CBG Quote[edit]

which is a computing joke referring to the Dick and Jane series of books, from which mid-20th-century American schoolchildren learned to read and which contained the words "See Spot. See Spot Run. Run, Spot, Run." It also refers to something that could be typed at the command prompt of the DOS (Disk Operating System) and is pronounced as "See DOS. See DOS run. Run DOS run." deleted due to irrelevance. And insulting our intellegence.

Annoyances[edit]

Attribution?[edit]

Can anyone provide attribution for the quote, "Hank Azaria based the character on a real person who lived next door to him during his freshman year of college at Tufts University."?

Because, as far as I know:

  1. Hank Azaria didn't create the character, he simply voiced him
  2. Comic Book Guy was based on a friend of David X. Cohen's at Harvard

I can't verify the second fact as it is only from knowing the man personally (nor would I want to drag his name through the mud—there are no current references on the internet to him being the inspiration for Comic Book Guy). Shy 00:35, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you ever read "Confederacy of Dunces" it is pretty obvious who the "Comic Book Guy" is based off of: Ignatius Riley. Of course, I do not have any proof, aside from the idiosyncries and circumstances both share. Plus, if you take into account how and where other characters of the Simpsons derive from, this is a logical claim.

Let me add: I just finished reading Confederacy of Dunces and the I agree with this attribution.

I totally agree. Reference should be made to Ignatius and ACOD. They are largely similar in physical description. Their use of language and exclamation is identical. They both hold, or held menial jobs. They both have a bloated sense of self-importance. Ignatius detests modern culture except for Batman, whom he admires for his moral prinicples. Ignatius detests modern culture and is addicted to film, a smybolic technology of the modern era, which is what the jeff is all about. Am I imagining things, or is there a small problem with CBG's ultimate belt? I was under the impression that he won it at a Dr. Who Marathon/Convention...is my memory playing tricks on me? No, it was definitely a Star Trek convention... although he once purchased a wheelbarrow full of tacos to provide "adequate sustenance" for a Doctor Who marathon.
