Can I suggest this page be reverted to the 06:16, 14 October 2006 edit by MRoche? Also, I would like it to be locked from editing due to repeated severe vandalism. Ardo 23:54, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I see that the cleanup tag has been removed yet again. I will restore it, as the article really needs more work. For general guidance, see the Manual of Style or WikiProject Schools. I figured I would give the article a chance for improvment before taking it to WP:AFD. For some specific issues that I see with the article, here are a few off the top of my head:

First, you may wish to know, that veifiable real schools are not deleted, per precident, as they are considered important. So, even if this was a regular school, it wouldn't be deleted. So, AFD would be pointless. But, this isn't a regular school. Its one of only a dozen charter schools in the entire country (though I wouldn't put that fact in each school article, as its subject to change). By law, a charter has to be unique to even exist. If its purpose is served by a district, the charter is not renewed (or not even granted in the first place). The simple statement its a charter is a statement of uniqueness. Also, please be cautious when citing guidelines and policies, to not mix essays that "may not have wide support". --Rob 02:30, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have seen a number of schools deleted based on a lack of good content. Granted, it has been a while since I followed AFD too closely or closed nominations. This article doesn't say that it is one of only a dozen charter schools. This actually should be in the article, as this is starting to identify the school's uniqueness. Yes, I did use a link that was not a specific guideline. That is because so much of that information is so unimportant that I can not see it documented in a reliable published source (e.g. entire School events section). If you wish, ignore the point on importance as it is covered by the verifiability policy. However, it is additional information that I felt would be useful. -- JamesTeterenko 04:44, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Please cite some specific AFDs to prove what you said about school deletion for lack of "good content" (see here for 2005 AFD results). School articles have been deleted (properly) for copyright violations, attacks, and most signficantly for non-verifibility reasons. They are no longer ever deleted for "non-notability", "non-importance", or "not having good content" (of course lack of good content is fixed by adding to it, not deleting it) High schools have not been deleted as such for nearly a year. The last case for an elementary was several months ago. Even before that, such deletions were rare. Anything, including municipalities can and should be deleted for lack of verifiability . However, schools are recognized as important and notable, and you won't find any recent cases of K-12 schools being deleted for lack of that. In cases where a school article contains unverifiable facts, just the unverifiable parts are removed, but the article is retained if the school itself (like this one) is verifiable. Also, as said before, the problem with mentioning the number/uniqueness of charters in each school article, is this information is very subject to change. This article, in the first sentence, gives a link to an article will gives the relevant information. --Rob 05:47, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Like I said, it has been a while since I have followed AFD. If people have moved towards keeping school articles, that is fine with me. I marked the article for cleanup, that is happening. I am not trying to get it deleted. -- JamesTeterenko 06:12, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Umm James, I AM reliable. I am one of 2 people in my school qualified to use our sound system,(the other being the principle) and when using it or a show, I sit 5 feet from the stage. This IS verifiable. Also, you may E-mail ANY of my teachers and verify who won the Laserband competition. Also, Where did the picture of the school go..?Ardo191 02:54, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sorry, Ardo191, but when JamesTeterenko says verifiable, he means Wikipedia's definition of verifiable. We don't allow articles to be based on personal knowledge. We don't do what we call original research. Its simply a matter of policy. You see, nobody reading this article has anyway of knowing who wrote it, and they don't know you personally. So, they can't tell if its accurate. Hence, we need to cite reliabe sources, like the Calgary Herald, or whatever. Nobody questions you're telling the truth. But, truth isn't sufficient here. We need verifiability, as Wikipedia defines the word. --Rob 02:57, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • The picture was removed from the article, because it seems to have come from the school's web site. That means its probably copyrighted, and can't be used by us. If you take a picture of the school personally, and release it the public domain, or license it under GFDL, then we could use it. It's possible, but unlikely, that the school would be willing to release the image to the public domain, or license it under GFDL. --Rob 03:00, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Rob, you have clarified my perspective. Ardo191, I did not mean this in any way as a slight to you. Please do peruse the links I gave. They do provide a lot of important context. And it is expressed much better than I can do in a few minutes. -- JamesTeterenko 04:44, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Conor Harvey Winning was verifiable by last month's "spectrum", CSS' monthly newsletter to students and parents, written by the vice principal. Is that Verifiable? Ardo191 04:36, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No. Please see Wikipedia:No original research#What counts as a reputable publication? -- JamesTeterenko 04:44, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Summary of my suggestions/pseudo-plans for the article[edit]

This is what I'ld like to see added/fixed (a little bit of a rehash from above). I'll wait before trying all this myself (to give those familiar with the school, a first crack):

  • Follow section headings based on Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools#Structure (partly done)
  • Remove unverified information about school events. I see around a dozen newspaper stories so-far, but they cover different events then what's mentioned here. So, we'll have to change what's covered.
  • Find the actual charter, cite it, and describe what it says (e.g. what's the school obligated to do)
  • Cover the controversy of the school's founding (there's always on with charters). We do this now, but in an unverified shallow manner.
  • The CBE opened a comparable (aka "copy cat") version of the school. Perhaps mentoining the relative timeing, and do some comparison between the two (Similiar to Calgary Girls School and Alice Jamieson Girls' Academy).
  • What year did this school open? What were the other locations of the school, and why/when exactly did it move each time?
  • What year does the current charter require renewel?

--Rob 06:16, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Since I'm a student at the school, I'll look on the Clem Gardener Plaque in the garden to see what year the school was built and opened. Ardo 05:13, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Outstanding questions[edit]

Can somebody add answers to these questions (from above) to the article:

  • What year did this school open? What were the other locations of the school, and why/when exactly did it move each time? Currently, we're only told when the current location opened.
  • All charters must be renewed every five years. When does the current CSS charter need to be renewed? --Rob 04:46, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
