Regarding the picuture[edit]

Although the .jpg accompanying this article is entitled "Oconostota" on Wiki Commons, according to the Smithsonian Institute it is rather of Standing Turkey, done in 1762.Chuck Hamilton (talk) 16:48, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not colonial[edit]

Colonial implies at some level being under the power of a foriegn authorit. Standing Turkey never recognied auhority beyond the Cherokees. He should not be classed as colonial.John Pack Lambert (talk) 23:04, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Need to merge with another Wikipedia entry?[edit]

Is this person not the same as Oconostota at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oconostota? Oconostota was clearly one of the three who visited London in 1762 and whose portrait was made as Cunne Shote; he had wire-rimmed eyeglasses made for him in England that were found in his grave in the late 20th century. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wilsonpam (talk • contribs) 03:19, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wilsonpam, I actually have brought up the same issue in several places. See my last attempt here at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Indigenous peoples of North America/Archive 11#Issues with Anglo-Cherokee War-era Cherokee leaders. That discussion didn't really get anywhere, and I'm convinced a general shuffling about (as I discuss in that comment) is needed.
