Trivia?[edit]

What is the purpose of the "Trivia Section?" I am considering deleting it. RankM (talk) 22:33, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

No primary topic established. This was proposed as a move to replace a dab page and there was no discussion of this or any other page being the primary topic. The spelling was fixed which was one issue for listing here. Vegaswikian (talk) 00:36, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Crooks Brook, Nova ScotiaCooks BrookRelisted. Really should be closed since there is no discussion much less establishing of a primary topic to displace the dab page. So, I'll close it that way unless we can establish a primary topic. Vegaswikian (talk) 05:14, 7 February 2011 (UTC) The title of the article is incorrect, the name "Cooks Brook" as referred to in the article is the correct name. For some reason, searching the name 'Cooks Brook' on wikipedia redirects to this incorrectly title article. Thanks.--RankM (talk) 22:40, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support There are two issues here. The first is the misspelling of "Cooks Brook" which is straight forward. The second is the mandatory disambiguation term "Nova Scotia" which appears unnecessary. I support a move to the correct and plain name as suggested by the nominator. -- Mattinbgn (talk) 00:56, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support The spelling mistake definitely needs to be fixed, but the removal of the disambiguation term may not be necessary. I support the change either way. RankM (talk) 23:14, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Support for spelling correction and avoiding unnecessary precision. --Born2cycle (talk) 06:56, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment the page was moved by a blocked account. The blocked user Cherry1000 (talk · contribs) seems to have made several geographic edits on various articles... this might need some investigation into the articles affected. 65.93.12.249 (talk) 12:39, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support move to correct and more concise title. --Polaron | Talk 14:35, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. The target name is that which appears in the Statistics Canada 2001 SGC for Halifax RM. However, note that the document also contains Cook Brook, so one of the two is likely incorrect. Mindmatrix 14:40, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose It is silly to think that there is going to be just one "Cooks Brook" in the world. Moving to the global name is just wrong for cases like this; better to have at a more precise name and to consider a redirect from the global name as a Redirect with possibilities (and it could be labelled as such). I started up the disambiguation page at Cooks Brook (converting it from a redirect) to cover the Cooks Brook in Massachusetts and the Cooks Brook in Newfoundland, besides the Nova Scotia one. There are more, i am sure. --doncram 16:57, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Does the stream in Newfoundland merit an article? (I don't think so.) If not, we could dispense with the disambiguation page, and supply a hatnote to the article about Cooks Brook Beach from this article. The only other mentions of Cooks Brook I've found so far are: non-notable roads in Maine, New York and elsewhwere; other streams (in East Waterboro, in Vermont, in Lyman, Maine, and possibly others); several student poems; and a small dam. There may be others; none of these appear to merit a WP article though. (I attempted to find UK-based results other than Cooks Brook Beach, but all those results point to the Nova Scotia location, except a few which mention the roads I listed as part of a real estate listing.) Mindmatrix, I don't care particularly about the one in Newfoundland, but i do believe all rivers and such natural features are wikipedia-notable. But, don't you agree that including ", Nova Scotia" in the name for the Nova Scotia one makes it a more clear title. And, that the term "Cooks Brook" can be either a disambiguation page, or a "redirect with possibilities"? It is the move of a reasonable name to a too simple name, which comes across as an arrogant assertion of world-wide importance for the place, that irks me most. --doncram 17:29, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I think people are missing the point here, I simply want the spelling mistake fixed. In my page move request I accidentally left out the "Nova Scotia" in the new title. Leave the disputes about importance, redirects, and disambiguation out of this and just fix the spelling mistake please and thank you.RankM (talk) 23:56, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The page has been moved to Cooks Brook, Nova Scotia which fixes the spelling issue. Vegaswikian (talk) 05:05, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
