Cotherstone Cheese[edit]

Cotherstone cheese probably began to be more widely known after the arrival of John Bowron, a cheesemonger from Cotherstone, and his wife arrived in London sometime between 1846 (when they married) and 1849 (when their first child was born in Paddington). In the early 1940s the most famous maker of the cheese was Mrs Katharine Birkett of West Park Farm.
