I corrected the deactivation date from "only one year after the radome was installed", because I was stationed there for more than 18 months during which the radar was fully operational under its radome and no bearing issues were present at the time. Catastrophic Bearing Failure[edit]

I note the absence of a reference for this entry. My memory says that the catastrophic bearing failure leading to the shutdown of the FPS-24 happened not at Cottonwood, but at another radar site: Blaine AFS, WA. The small museum on McChord Air Force Base, Tacoma, WA has on display the notorious failed bearing from Blaine AFS's FPS-24. LarryB55 (talk) 00:03, 16 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
