Congratulations to the Craigieburn residents and those in Roxburg Park[edit]

This is defnitely a great delivery to people of Craigieburn and Roxburg park. The stations, everything being constructed all looks nice after the pictures that I viewed so far. I want to go and walk the whole way and see what has been done.

Though there is one question that looms, and that is whether the Connex melbourne train services have been stretched and strained even further, which could potentially make more 'sardine' crushed passengers aboard trains causing more serious illnesses towards passengers.

There have been many many cases of trains being delayed at stations because people have fallen ill and even fainted in overcrowded carriages, needing medical assistance to reach them.

Connex has set the timetables issuing 50 services on the Craigieburn line a day, good to hear but it's concerning how much more will be lost on the rest of the other lines out of Melbourne which are already having trouble with maintaining appropriate service requirements, especially the overcrowding.

What are your opinions, is the rail project to extend the electrification/suburban service to Craigieburn worthwhile? What do you believe are the positive/negative affects of this project that was authorized by the State Government. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cyberencyclopedia (talkcontribs) 13:45, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hopefully the issue of overcrowding will be sorted out. It's possible the recent timetable shuffling may help peak services on some lines once they get the bugs ironed out, but the reality is that there aren't enough trains to go around. There are also unresolved capacity and signalling issues within the network. I understand the state government has ordered additional trains, but they won't be delivered until 2009. It's possible they haven't ordered enough. (Hopefully their brakes will work.) The government is also offering free travel before 7am to users on some lines, which has the potential to backfire, but I suppose they have to try something. It would be interesting to know what their long term plans are for managing the growth of the system. I can't see people using public transport less any time soon. For that reason, the project was worthwhile. Anyway, we'll see what happens.
Incidentally, Wikipedia talk pages are mostly for discussing articles, not the subject of those articles, but I'm not sure of a more suitable place for this... --ozzmosis 15:54, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
