CVG Assessment[edit]

This is in regards to the request for assessment from the CVG Assessment page. I am rating this article as Stub-class, despite it's length. A quick overview, from the top.

  • Lead- rather short, but passable.
  • Gameplay- What? "It's like this other game, but different." Right. You need to actually describe the gameplay, and what the heck is going on. Who's Velo, who's Oxide, and what is a CNK token? Write the article as if the reader has no clue what Crash Bandicoot is, has never played this game, or any other game.
  • Story- I'll be blunt. Don't rewrite this section. Delete it, and start again. I'm not sure if this is just ripped out of the game manual, or if you worte this yourself, but it's completely unusable. Wikipedia is written in a 3rd-person perspective- not second, and certainly not first!
  • Everything after that- delete it. Have a section on the characters, written in paragraph form, describing who they are and the cart they race in. No poses! No lists! Same with the tracks- a short paragraph on the various types of tracks in the game. Not a list of gameguide material! And take out the trivia section- if its' trivial, it doesn't need to be in the article.

If I seem a little snippy, it's because reading the story section really made me angry. This is the first time that I've actually lowered an article's rating when assessing. This article needs a lot of work to get back to Start-class, much less higher. --PresN 02:07, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • The Nitro Kart page is written more-or-less in exactly the same way as the Team Racing page. I don't hear anyone complaining about that. Why complain about this? CBFan 19:33, 27 January 2007 (UTC)CBFan[reply]

Request For Comment: IP actions[edit]

This is an official notice of an RfC opened 15:17, 30 January 2007 (UTC) on Crash Nitro Kart. Two IPs are currently locked in a heated edit war concerning the substance of the article. The edit summaries on the history page are being used to voice opinions, rather than the talk page. Both parties seem to me to have violated WP:3RR many times over; I've requested semi-protection until this can be sorted out. --HubHikari 15:17, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can't we at LEAST revert back?[edit]

Can't we at least revert back to the version BEFORE the tag was introduced? That way, it's neutral. And I'd also like to tell Mr Speculator to stop vandalising threads, starting arguments and blaming them on other people. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by CBFan (talkcontribs) 17:35, 30 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

OK, if we must change it, I'd like to request two things.[edit]

  • That we adjust the Team Racing article as well, as it otherwise promotes biasey.
  • We adjust the storyline and character line-up without going back to the original version, as it is speculative, repetitive and Crunch's bio is somewhat lack-luster.

I request everyone leaves it alone :(

Resolution.[edit]

I and 86 (insert real IP number here) have now managed to resolve our differences. I believe that the article can be unblocked now safely without fear of more problems. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 212.219.92.36 (talk) 11:32, 2 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Good, but you should have also removed it from the RFC page so people wouldn't waste time coming here when they could have been helping other disputes that aren't yet resolved. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Petershank (talkcontribs) 21:23, 22 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Did Tiny became king of the galaxy[edit]

He became king of Terra —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sonicrules (talkcontribs) 16:13, 18 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

  • That was somewhat pointless. King of one planet does not equal the king of the entire galaxy

Useful web page[edit]

I found this webpage on the graphics of Crash Nitro Kart ([1]). Perhaps it could be of use. Cat's Tuxedo (talk) 22:41, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reassment[edit]

I dunno, but it hardly looks like a stub. Should this be Start/C class? YOWUZA Talk 2 me! 13:44, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Article comments[edit]

Unfortunately the PR was closed before I had time to return to the article, but here are some additional comments on the present state of the article:

  • The paragraphs are exceptionally dense, and could use some condensing, or reorganization into more manageable, smaller paragraphs. Unnecessary words can be cut. In particular, some of the examples of how items are activated, etc. come off as game guidish. One example and a summary is all we really need, ex.:
    • "Boosting is a crucial part of winning a race in Crash Nitro Kart. Every time the player boosts, their kart will momentarily go slightly faster than its normal top speed. There are numerous ways to get a speed boost in Crash Nitro Kart. The easiest way to get a boost is to drive over the green-and-black-colored "boost pads" scattered throughout the tracks. The player can get a boost off the starting line by pumping the gas during the countdown. When the player is being reset onto the track after driving off the edge, a boost can be obtained by pressing and holding the gas button at the right time. Another simple way to get a speed boost is to obtain a turbo boost canister from an Item Crate and activating it. If the player hits one of the shoulder buttons while going over a ramp, the player's kart will fly into the air. The higher the kart goes, the bigger the boost will be upon landing. Another technique used for boosting is the "power slide". To execute a power slide, the player must hold down one of the shoulder buttons to perform a hop and steer left or right before the kart lands. While sliding, a curved "boost gauge" will appear next to the player's kart. When the gauge goes from green to red, the player must press the opposite shoulder button to obtain a boost. After the initial boost, the player can obtain another boost by pressing the opposite shoulder button when the gauge turns red again. The higher the boost gauge goes, the more powerful the boost will be." change to:

  • File:CNKCutscene.JPG should be removed, as there's already a screenshot that shows the cutscene and also shows the main characters (WP:NFCC).
  • The reception section plods along. Ideally, since the majority of the reception is about the console reviews, the massive paragraph should be split into smaller ones that describe how critics responded to each feature or facet of the gameplay, rather than providing a laundry list of quotes. See Halo Wars, for example.

I hope these comments are useful. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 19:19, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I think I've fixed most of those problems you've addressed. I'd like to get an opinion on if things have improved before I take a crack at that GA nomination. Cat's Tuxedo (talk) 05:05, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Prose issues
  • As David Fuchs noted in his peer review, some of those paragraphs still seem a bit too long. Having paragraphs that are too long tend to drone on and lose readers' interest. Please cut down a few of those paragraphs to appropriate lengths (no fewer than four, but no more than nine if absolutely necessary).
More specifically, the first paragraph in the "Characters" subsection, the "Story" subsection, and the first paragraph in the "Development" section need to be split.
For that "Characters" subsection, I would recommend starting new paragraphs when each team is introduced. (It may be a bit on the short side, but it would keep readers on track, which what counts a bit more.)
For that "Development" section, I recomment starting a new paragraph at the sentence Given the task of ...
    Looks good. –MuZemike 17:58, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • In the story subsection, On Earth, Crash Bandicoot and his friends are relaxing while their nemesis, Doctor Neo Cortex, paces across his laboratory floor wondering how he can defeat the Bandicoots and achieve world domination. → a case of "noun plus '-ing'" here (the word "wondering" proceeding the noun "floor"). Try to tweak that sentence to remove that occurrence.
    Good. –MuZemike 17:58, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • In the "Reception" section, you have a few cases of misplaced end-punctuation with regards to quotations. Per WP:LP, the end-punctuation goes inside the quotation marks if that punctuation is part of the quoted material and outside if it is not. Please correct all these instances.
    Good. –MuZemike 17:58, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
MoS issues
  • In the "Reception" section, some terms, including the magazines, need to be wikilinked upon the first occurrence (i.e. GamePro, The Official PlayStation Magazine, etc.). Please wikilink those publications on the first occurrence in the article only.
Good. I helped you out on that one [2] so that you understand what I mean there. –MuZemike 17:58, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Print sources/magazines are always italicized (like GamePro), while web-only publications aren't. Please correct those instances of which they aren't.
    Good. –MuZemike 17:58, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • You have some overlinking in your citations with regards to the "publishers". Just wikilink on the first time that website/publication is mentioned in a reference and remove them for the rest.
    Good. –MuZemike 17:58, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Image issues
Other things to remember

Note: The following won't count against you in this GAN, but it should probably be done, especially if/when this article approaches A-Class or FA.

  • Remember to add alt text in your images. See WP:ALT for more information.
  • You should try to add the stuff backed by citations in the lead into the main body of the article. That way you can remove the citations in the lead (as well as the infobox) as that can turn off readers.
  • For your references to the Instruction Manual (at least what I usually do for brevity and simplicity reasons), I would recommend using short citations and then, at the bottom of the "References" section, you can include the full citation of the manual. See how I did the citations in The Guardian Legend and Ninja Gaiden (NES) for examples.
Conclusions

More coming, but that's something to get you started on right now. –MuZemike 22:04, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

On hold. Otherwise, it's fairly well-written with consistent usage of citations. Everything also seems to be cited properly.
Passed. Nice work on the article. Keep improving it when you can as you have plenty of references to take from. –MuZemike 17:58, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

GBA only featurs[edit]

We need to add the GBA only stuff on there. Because the GBA verson has some nice featers —Preceding unsigned comment added by Savelijah (talkcontribs) 16:46, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Only if there's reliable online sources describing them. If none can be found, forget it. Cat's Tuxedo (talk) 17:26, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
