Talk: Dr. Cristina Yang[edit]

Beverly Hills High School? Was it ever mentioned she attended this school?

Yang ?? I don't think so. Dr B2 (talk) 13:41, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Age[edit]

How was her age determined? Assume bachelors of 4 years. Three to five years for PhD. Four years for medical school. If she entered college at 17, this puts her at a minimum of 28 when the show begins. And we're in season four. Unless she skipped several years of school, she's got to be in her early 30s by now. --Westendgirl 22:55, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Trivia, I guess. Yang says she is Filipino then says Korean[edit]

Season 1, 2nd episode at minute 15:32 she says her nationality. On the original airing, she states she is "Filipino". On the Netflix replay she is very obviously over dubbing the original audio and says she is "Korean". She said it again in season 3 episode 22, but the scene has been removed. I'm a registered nurse and work with many Filipinas and Filipinos, the name of the ethnicity of people from the Philippines. Filipina girls always refer to themselves as Filipina, not Filipino, and there is nothing believable about Sandra Oh being Filipina. The actress that plays her mother, is Chinese, Tsai Chin Zhou. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.90.146.56 (talk) 00:37, 20 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • You can't even see her lips for more than half a second when she says, "Besides, I'm Korean." in episode two, so I'm not sure how you could say it's been dubbed over. I highly, highly doubt it ever said she was Filipino because the character is Korean, as is the actress, Sandra Oh. And when in "The Other Side of This Life" do you think she said she was Filipino? Librarynerds (talk) 01:49, 20 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, it's dubbed. Close your eyes and listen. It's super obvious. Tone and pitch and mood and volume is changed. Dubbing over isn't about lips moving, it's about sound. And I can say she said she was Filipino because I heard it and I thought it was stupid at the time because she's Korean. At the time it seemed to be put in for shock value so the viewer would say "I wouldn't have guessed that. I shouldn't judge a book by its cover". Her mother speaks with a Chinese accent, not Korean, so thumbs down to the casting agent. It's trivia now since I can't find any other record of it. But if I do ill post it! 72.90.146.56 (talk) 15:51, 20 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • In that case, it could have been that they used ADR in post-production because there was something wrong with the original recording (background noise, audio quality was lacking) and they needed her to redo it, with the same dialogue. Librarynerds (talk) 22:44, 20 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
