This person, with the information provided, is not notable. Being known locally is not notable; it my town Dai 'Electric' is known by everyone, but he's a nutter and not notable. Being a member of a well known organisation is also not notable. If he was knighted, that would count; if he won the VC, that would count; if he was dean of Queens College Oxford, that would count (just). Please state what makes this person of importance. Has he composed a piece of music that is well known or written work that has appeared on film? Has he tutored a now famous musician? As far as I can see he is a music teacher that is well thought of by his peers. That does not make someone notable in the eyes of Wikipedia.FruitMonkey (talk) 23:21, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A number of points here 1) In the context of a small village someone with that many diplomas at several of Great Britain's finest music colleges deserves a mention. I've never heard of Geraint Lewis the "famous" astrophysicist, so maybe he should not be included? and 3) Had you heard of Geraint Rosser? Have you heard of Daryl Pugh? Apparently you don't know as much about OUR village as you think... Crynant 23:30, 29 June 2008 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Deeda Crynant (talkcontribs)

  • You are confusing notability as a Wikipedia concept and someone being notable. Having several diplomas from the world's finest music colleges does not deserve a mention. Also, I have never heard of any of the people listed on the notable residents list, but I can see that they have notability. Geraint Lewis is notable as the people who have designed his page have shown links to scientific theories that are seen as important within his field of astrophysics. Means nothing to me, but they have proven notability. Fame has nothing to do with notability. Finally I know nothing about your village, never been there. But that's not the point, sometimes being too close to a subject clouds judgement and things get personal. Believe me that the person is not notable. But if you can link this person to a noted reference in a text book, Ill stop deleting the text.FruitMonkey (talk) 08:05, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Definitions taken from Wiktionary - 'Notable' Worthy of notice; remarkable; memorable; noted or distinguished. 'distinguished' A title of note or honor. Having umpteen letters after your name and then subsequently being recognised by your peers as deserving of honourary status in your field means he is worthy of inclusion (do you think these respected institutions hand out Honourary awards to any Tom, Dick or FruitMonkey?). Someone is either notable or not regardless of concept. "Geraint Lewis is notable as the people who have designed his page...", what page is that exactly? That's a very snobbish attitude if you don't mind me saying. I also disagree that being too close to a subject clouds judgement, it means I have the benefit of local knowledge that you cannot comprehend, just as I would not feel comfortable commenting on Llanharan. I'm afraid we are going to have to agree to disagree on this one. You don't think my entry deserves inclusion and in my opinion entries such as Geraint Lewis and John Cale are not justified taking your viewpoint (just because some people believe John Cale to be from Crynant is irrelevant, he comes from Garnant, which is in Carmarthenshire! and as such is not a Crynant resident, worthy or not). Stop deleting my entry and I will stop deleting the text that I disagree with. For now I will let it remain in place. • As we have now hit three back and for deletions, I will stop as per Wikipedias guide lines (otherwise it turns into a flame war which neither of us want). There is a definite Notability guide in Wikipidea (not a dictionary definition) check: Wikipedia:Notability as a pointer. I agree with you that the John Cale statement should be removed as you correctly state it has nothing to do with the page, unless it's such a massive misconception it's taken as red (like people thinking the Great Wall of China is the only man made object visible from space). I still completely disagree with your opinion, but there's better things to fight over. In fact I'm off to find a book which states John Cale's correct place of birth. Also by signing your own piece of work it stops the Sinebot touching up your comments. It's the four tildes underneath the "Show changes" button.
