Tidy-up and better way to handle history[edit]

I've removed some anti-GAA POV and tidied up the text. There was a lot of duplicated information there because there were two histories, for some reason. I've spliced them together taking care not to lose any of the info, but it still needs a bit more work for readability. A timeline might be a better format than what's there now. I also think that we need more info about the organisation in the present day, the article is heavy on the history but deficient on the present. Also, I think the influence of Kelly and Roche is important enough that it warrants some sort of a mention. Thoughts? --Eamonnca1 (talk) 00:03, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've added a cited section about Kelly and Roche which I intend to expand into a fuller explanation of what CI does these days. I think a big problem with this article is that the history section is so long and detailed that it dominates the page. I'd be inclined to section that off into an article of its own and replace what's on this page with a less detailed historical summary, but I'm not sure if a child article would survive a deletion discussion. --Eamonnca1 (talk) 21:29, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fascinating history[edit]

Fascinating history. I never knew any of this until watching Tailteann – Rothaí an tSaoil on TG4 a moment ago. This article could probably do with far more footnotes, though, as it would be a very surprising history for most people. 79.97.154.238 (talk) 16:56, 30 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Irish/Northern Irish Cyclists[edit]

It would be good to add a section about Irish cyclists, no? I was particularly interested to see if there were any cyclists from the North, and to find out what championships they compete in (GB or Ireland).Gavinio (talk) 11:25, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Back to a more complete and balanced article[edit]

I came "round the back" here to make a couple of points, and lo, they're already there. I think the idea by the second writer to have a separate article on the history is great, but even better, have one on each of the predecessor bodies (one has an article already). And this would also better reflect the key people, especially the team who got the modern ICF going (Paddy McQuaid and Karl McCarthy, Steve Lawless the uber Gen. and International Secretary and later President, Joe Doyle who got the finances sound, John Lackey RIP, Fred Smith, Joe McCormack), and those who later drove the "unification" like Liam King, plus Donal O'Connell, Willie Marks and the like. There was a lot of mess and bitterness in some corners, if memory serves me right, first between the NCA and BLE (reminds of modern fracas involving Irish Sports Council), and then in the North, but it did all get sorted out. I agree too that Kelly and Roche must be there, but don't forget Shay Elliott, God rest his soul. Shay was the first super-star, the one who blazed the trail, and he, and maybe Christy Kimmage, were part of what made the later guys go. Not to forget the other McQuaids, or the Lallys, or Peter Doyle down Bray way.
