What is meant by "An average comparison of distance against time would be about 50 minutes for every Km"? Shouldn't that be 5 or is something else meant by it? SietskeEN 16:23, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed it too. You would have to cycle very slowly for this. 20 kilometers in one hour would be a better estimate. Gemertp 20:20, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup[edit]

I have cleaned the article, it contained many small mistakes, like periods missing at the end of sentences. If you notice more, please correct them. I also removed the comment about bikes needing no gears because the country is flat. While some bikes indeed don't have them, they are necessary. The country may be flat, but normal wind speeds are 3 beaufort and if you have a headwind you do need the gears. Gemertp 20:37, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This article is a bit of an eyesore. Should we stick up the clean-up template? - THE GREAT GAVINI {T-C} 17:22, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Surely gears are useful rather than necessary. Chasnor15 (talk) 21:27, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dutch cycle route planner[edit]

I am not from the Netherlands, so I would rather let the local experts edit this article, but I saw an article that may be of interest: (Dutch) Cyclists create their own GPS maps. Perhaps a link to this article and to the Dutch cycle route planner site would be appropriate in the section: Cycling_in_the_Netherlands#Route_Maps or in an External Links section. Renaming[edit]

I suggest this article is retitled 'Cycling in the Netherlands' Chasnor15 (talk) 21:26, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Erm, it's at Cycling in the Netherlands already??? SeveroTC 22:49, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

bicycle helmets are hardly ever worn in the Netherlands - the same can be said for Denmark where bicycles are considered very important[edit]

wtf? there's a contradiction --88.97.32.71 (talk) 20:16, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

But still true. Bicycle helmets are hardly ever worn in the Netherlands. I can't speak for Denmark.--Degen Earthfast (talk) 19:22, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

“how dangerous it has become”[edit]

The cited statistics (“A quarter of all deadly accidents in the Netherlands involve cyclists”) don’t imply that cycling became dangerous if confronted with the numbers of the previous paragraph (“Nearly a third of all journeys made in the Netherlands are made by bicycle.”) So I removed the claim about danger. Creating page in Dutch[edit]

Hello, I have just created a page in Dutch (geschiedenis van het fietsen in Nederland/ a history of Cycling in the Netherlands) and I think it would be useful to link it both ways. How can I do that?Gallimons (talk) 08:34, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure myself, but if you ask at Wikipedia:Help desk I'm sure they'll be happy to help! Bellowhead678 (talk) 21:04, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Does the scope of this article include cycling as a sport?[edit]

I notice that Cycling in the United States was (until I just edited it) mostly about the sport, rather than the mode of transport. Unsurprisingly, this article is the opposite. But I can't find any article about cycling as a sport in the Netherlands. Should that be added here, or begun as a separate page? {{u|Sdkb}}talk 23:46, 29 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
