deleted manga/anime relation to d1gp.[edit]

i really didnt think there should be a mention of relation of the beginning of d1gp and the manga series Initial d. Drifting wasnt really made popular by the manga cause it was already popular, sure it did make it more poplular but it had nothing to do with the creation of D1GP.

d1 driver list[edit]

just wondering if we should move the d1 driver list into its own seperate page? seems the list will just get bigger and bigger over time and clog up the original d1gp page.

Thats a good idea, as I had already realised the size of it compared with the article a while ago which as a result, I have moved the whole list to this new article List of D1 Grand Prix Drivers and created a cut-down mini list for 10 of the best known drivers in the series. Feel free to make changes as I have only included active drivers as it is intended for. Willirennen 14.24 10 August 2006 (utc)

WikiProject Assessment[edit]

A nice, long, thorough article. However, towards the beginning, there is at least one instance of phrasing such as "We also saw..." This needs to be rewritten into proper encyclopedic writing style. LordAmeth 16:50, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

relative lap times compared to non-drifting[edit]

It should be made more clear that the reason for drifting is not the shortest possible lap time but the aesthetic appeal.

How is drifting enforced? What happens if some competitor were not to drift some of the corners?

Is there some minimum drift angle and is there a jury for deciding whether the drivers drift sufficiently?

And finally, just about how do the lap times compare to laps driven in cars of similar weight and power without drifing?

These are what I can answer but I will answer them separately to make it easier to clarify, correct me if I'm wrong

2nd line, if the driver is found not drifting, then that is considered as an understeer and that will be shown against him during a tsuiou round, if not, the driver will score a low point. On each corner, there is a corner judge, if they see a car appear to not drift at all or in an angle too shallow to be considered as drifting, then they raise a green flag which is for a judge to see.

3rd line, prior to 1995, it was upto the judges to decide and they always consisted of the three (Orido, Tsuchiya and Suzuki), since then Orido left and was "replaced" by a GPS device called the DriftBox which determines angle and speed

Last line, problem is , I have never seen lap times for the two together as I wish I can afford a subscription of Option, my guess is that with the style of drifting found in D1, it would be a somewhat slower than racing as the kind of drifting found in rallying is not as great as the former, but it more to go fast around tight corners.

About the last line you can see comparison of grip and drift in japanese videos such as Doritengoku, i'm not sure about Best Motoring, but it's totally possible aswell. Drifting is generally slightly slower than gripping with the same car. Some of the D1GP cars have participated to the Tsukuba Superlap competition(time attack, youtube). In 2002 or 2003 the HKS S15 driven by nobuteru taniguchi was already clocking a 58s a lap. For info the record holder for this competition is the HKS Evo that clocks a 54s. Today drift cars are way more like professionnalracing cars, so some of them could do very good laptimes. Some of those machines are able to do the 0-400 in 8seconds(tested during the D1GP comp at autopolis. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.245.226.121 (talk) 17:09, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
