http://www.nps.gov/cure/historyculture/cimcanyonexhibit.htm says that boxcar #3132 was built in 1903, but the book "A Century + Ten of D&RGW Narrow Gauge Freight Cars, 1871 to 1981" by Robert E. Sloan says the 3000 series boxcars were ordered in 1903 and delivery began in 1904. The above link also states that the C-16 classification is based on the weight of the locomotive. This was true of the original classification (60).
