Curtis Laverne Crafard as a Notable resident[edit]

On May 5, 2009, I added Mr. Crafard to the list of notable residents. The following day, his name was removed without explanation. I have since pondered over this, not knowing exactly what to do about it. I do think that Mr. Crafard deserves to be mentioned here because my initial reaction upon reading in the Warren Commission Report of his association with this town was that it most likely was a typographical error and that is how I ended up on this page, as I was seeking to find out if there really existed a town called Dallas in Oregon. Reading further, I discovered that there was no error and that it was a case of a rather strange coincidence that one of the individuals who was closest to Jack Ruby in the weeks preceding the assassination of JFK in Dallas, Texas, was raised in Dallas, Oregon and lived there from the age of 9 (I'll have to check on that) until he enlisted in the Army in 1958. He still had family in Dallas, Ore. in 1963 and he himself was in town in January of 1963 as is attested by a Dallas, Ore., Police Dept. arrest record for being drunk and disorderly. He was one of the most extensively questioned witnesses by the Warren Commission (3,972 questions, apparently).

Having registered with Wikipedia as a regular user only a few days ago, I will therefore attempt to reinstate Mr. Crafard among the notable residents of Dallas, Oregon. I am also contemplating writing an article about him or, at the very least, a stub. Oclupak (talk) 19:41, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, we do remove people from the notable residents section if they do not already have articles. See the standard disclaimer developed by WikiProject Oregon that I added to that section (visible in "edit mode") after I removed Crafard:
  • Only people who already have a Wikipedia article may appear here. This establishes notability.
  • The biographical article must mention how they are associated with Dallas, whether born, raised, or residing.
  • The fact of their association should have a reliable source cited in their article, unless it is well-known.
  • Alphabetical by last name please.
  • All others will be deleted without further explanation.
So if he is notable by Wikipedia standards, then he needs an article before he is added to that section. We do this to keep out things like kids adding their friends, etc. Please read WP:NOTE and WP:BIO to determine if Mr. Crafard is notable before getting started writing one. Thanks! Thanks for the info. I will look into it. Oclupak (talk) 16:36, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
