additional problems

Just noticed this. Absurd over-emphasis of a relatively minor but notable author. The section on his biography is duplicative both of the main article and the introduction and should be eliminated. The listing of minor works like book reviews is inappropriate except for the most important of authors.. The photograph adds nothing of value--it belongs in the article about him, but not here. There is no justification for the article in the first place, and it should be merged back. At a possible alternative, it should just contain his bibliography, plain and simple,

I shall boldly make the changes I suggested, and depending on whether they stick, I shall then consider listing it at Requested merges, and , if necessary, continue to an RfC. DGG ( talk ) 14:16, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

Nearly a year since you said this, DGG, but I have to agree with you. I have no complaint with ArbCom permitting a user to ignore a topic ban in order for this to be brought up in quality, but I simply can't understand why this is potential featured list material. Right now there's a candidate at Wikipedia:Featured list removal candidatesList of winners of the Mathcounts competition — that's seemingly about to be delisted because it's a list of non-notable subjects. There's sometimes a place for nonnotables, but such a list doesn't belong at FL. Nyttend (talk) 18:33, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
Okay, well let's see how it goes? The Mathcounts article isn't being delisted for lack of notability, it's probably going south because the main article can withstand a merge. Whether or not such a list can withstand scrutiny at FLC, we'll see. No reason not to give it a shout. Surprised by your negativity! The Rambling Man (talk) 18:35, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
So the guy writes four books, edits another one, and produces a TV script and a play — there's nothing that would fit poorly in his article. Listing his individual articles is really getting into the trivial, especially since it doesn't appear that any of his writing in that field has received any awards. Nyttend (talk) 18:47, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
Your interest is commendable. Let's see how it goes! I look forward to your comments at WP:FLC. All the best. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:27, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Lede intro text

Lede/intro text was added back by The Rambling Man (talk · contribs), with edit summary: "the irony that a lead section is deleted then to be immediately be replace with a "lead missing" maintenance template is quite magnificent". This is one more helpful step on the path to WP:FLC candidacy. :) Cheers, — Cirt (talk) 15:28, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Some quick pre-FLC comments

  • Check the redirects, e.g. "University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana" -> "University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign "
  • "Dan Savage in 2005" just Savage is fine.
  • "His 2005 book" -> "Savage's 2005 book...."
  • "The book features contributors including the President of the United States Barack Obama" probably don't need "President of... " we mostly know who Barack is.
  • We need the table(s) to comply with WP:ACCESS, i.e. MOS:DTT which uses row and col scopes.
  • If you have a table column where all entries are the same, ask yourself if it's necessary.
  • Consider using the {{sortname}} template so you don't have to list authors by surname. Normal humans read names as "first name surname".
  • Avoid bold links.
  • The See also section is too general and probably has far too many entries. I'd suggest being much more selective.

Thanks very much, will get on addressing these soon and then update here. — Cirt (talk) 17:22, 6 September 2013 (UTC)

Replies by Cirt to comments by The Rambling Man
  1. Done. Fixed a few redirects and used a tool to check for others.
  2. Done. Changed to just "Savage".
  3. Done. Changed to "Savage's 2005 book..."
  4. Done. Changed to just "Barack Obama".
  5. "We need the table(s) to comply with WP:ACCESS, i.e. MOS:DTT which uses row and col scopes." -- This one I'll have to update on a bit later after taking some time to research it more.
  6. Done. Removed entries for table columns where all entries were the same.
  7. Done. Used {{sortname}} for listing authors by full name.
  8. Done. Removed bold links.
  9. Done. Trimmed See also section by over fifty percent.

Update: All above are now  Done, save for "We need the table(s) to comply with WP:ACCESS, i.e. MOS:DTT which uses row and col scopes." -- as I want to research this one a bit further before making changes. Will update more back here soon, — Cirt (talk) 00:29, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

I've asked User:The Rambling Man for some help with this last one. — Cirt (talk) 00:38, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

Okay, this should now all be  Done. Thanks, looks better this way, — Cirt (talk) 18:50, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
