The Hearts

Is anyone able to tell me the significance of the hearts on the Danish krone?

It is simply the symbol of the Royal Mint, in Danish such a symbol is known as a møntmærke (literally: mark of the Mint.) Until the mid-1800s the symbol used was a crown. Denmark originally had three braches of the Mint issuing coins: Copenhagen (the Crown of Christian V), Altona - in modern Hamburg - a globus cruciger, Kongsberg (Norway) - a crossed miner's pickaxe and hammar.

The Royal Danish Mint's current symbol is no doubt inspired by the hearts in the coat of arms of Denmark. Valentinian ^(talk) 20:56, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Suggestion for all currency pages

would be good to have a link to currency conversion tools. ideally a currency feed would be in all pages which has an active/trading currency.

Are these vandalism?

My guess would be yes. But even if we assume that the editor is good faith, the addition is improbable and unsourced; as such it can and should be reverted whether or not it is conscious vandalism. I have done so. –Henning Makholm 16:08, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

EURO

No actual date has been set yet. So far I think the current wording in the article ("The government is still committed to converting Denmark's currency to the euro eventually") is an accurate description of the current situation. –Henning Makholm 21:49, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

And that vote may have to wait until after the next parliamentary elections. If Villy Søvndal presses home the point that the Socialist People's Party is part of the "national compromise" agreement of 1993, his party will effectively have a veto right on actually calling such a vote. No party revoked this agreement before or during the recent election campaign, so it remains in force under Danish parliamentary precedence. Valentinian ^{T / C} 00:05, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Fixed exhange rate with the Reichsmark 1940-45

I have twice removed a claim that the krone was not only pegged to the German Reichsmark during the German occupation of Denmark, but actually at par with it. This sounds very unlikely, as the two currencies had independent histories before the war — it would be an extreme coincidence if it made economic sense for the fixed exchange rate to be set exactly at parity. The claim also conflicts with the website of Nationalbanken which says that the krone was revalued by 8 per cent with respect to all currencies (including the Reichsmark) in January 1942 [1]. The claim of parity should not be reinserted without solid sourcing. –Henning Makholm 18:35, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

New picture at top

I was thinking if we could replace the picture of the 2-øre at the top because of the coins being obsolete and doesn't reflect newer 20-kr. with Queen Margrethe II on them.Mare Tranquillitatis (talk) 08:49, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
