Name and professional life[edit]

No reliable source yet found to confirm any direct connection, so just noting here that Daphne's uncle Henry Hyman Haldinstein (her father's younger brother, and a lawyer) and her cousin Philip Edward Haldinstein (only son of her father's elder brother (deceased), and a shipowner) formally changed their name in June 1915 to Haldin. They had both moved from Norwich to London and were no longer actively involved in the Haldinstein & Co footwear business, which continued under that name [1].

Usually the position "Hon. Secretary" signifies Honorary (ie unpaid) rather than Honourable, but I have not found an accessible online source that spelled it out in this case. It might be found in the newspaper Jewish Chronicle archive (modest subscription) [2]. I see from the refs that the Paul Mellon Centre describes her as an amateur art historian - so it is not clear from where she derived her income (perhaps privately, from family interests but, again, nothing found). In 1939 she was living in St Marylebone, London, apparently without other family members (per 1939 Register [3]). All this is of course unusable WP:OR.

By the way, bearing in mind her active Jewish parentage, does the source given really refer to her being christened? Davidships (talk) 09:40, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
