Explanation of the show's low ratings[edit]

The "Ratings and cancellation" section currently says:

Though the series debuted to great success, watched by nearly 1 in 4 households, ratings declined as the onset of the Gulf War disrupted the broadcast schedule. Part of the blame was also placed on NBC for promoting the series' horror and vampire themes rather than the more appropriate romantic and fantasy themes.

This is not an accurate explanation for why the show's ratings declined. The broadcast schedule was not disrupted by the Gulf War -- after the 4-hour premiere, an episode aired on Friday every week, except for one pre-emption on February 22nd between the 8th and 9th episodes.

The "part of the blame" sentence is from a defensive Dark Shadows fan's point of view. Who says that romantic and fantasy themes are "more appropriate" than horror and vampire themes? It's a show about a vampire. Clearly the network's promotions worked, because the debut got great ratings. The ratings declined because people didn't like what they saw. Cite a source. The passage you isolated is corroborated by several reliable sources. Your counter-argument looks like a lot of personal interpretation and OR to me.
