On Trivia Section[edit]

I think it is necessary to put trivia on this article just like other Television series articles.

03 August 2009 edits[edit]

  • format: removed thriller because darna is a superhero genre series and does not include a enigma to be solved to be branded as a thriller. removed adventure - a genre that involves character moving into different places and not staying in to one, this format is yet to be shown and until proven otherwise when the show begins airing. removed crime, just because darna fights crime does not mean its a crime genre series, crime genre series involves broad descriptions of a crime itself or a murder to be solved (this ties into to thriller as well). removed horror - just because there might be a scary scene does not mean its format is horror. all the genres removes are too tiny to become its format. please leave the main ones instead.
  • MR, MAF and IM are introduced as the main cast, i dont know which teasers youve seen abroad, but as per time in the philippines, it has been introduced that the three are the main cast therefore deserves to be credited as the starring... in addition, the "starring" section should include the first batch of cast in credits i.e. Heroes (TV series) page has included the all the mainstay credited cast, not just the "main" ones.
  • removed zorro in "preceded_by" section. this section is for connection series. ie etheria is preceded by encantadia etc. darna is not zorro part 2
  • removed series in related section - just because they are from the same graphic novel artist doesnt mean they are related as a series. this section is for spin offs e.i. family guy has the cleveland show, or friends has joey, etc.
  • please consider the points i made before reverting my edits.
thank you. - ISWAK3 (talk) 19.39, 03 August 2009 (GMT)

sorry, but ive explained my edits, youre the one who reverted my perfectly explained edits. - User:ISWAK3

Edits[edit]

  • Darna is a Crime / Triller / Horror like Captain Barbell, Gagambino, Kamandag, Babangon Ako't Durugin Kita, La Vendetta and Joaquin Bordado. It's because it has fighting scenes and the chacerters are monster creatures.
  • Only one teaser is shown in the US. The teaser does not show any chacerters.
  • Marian Rivera is the main star.
  • Please do not revert my edits or else you and me will be blocked by an patroling Adminstrator.

The hell?!!! did you even know what a crime, thriller or horror series means??? how come that movies like superman, batman or superhero movies doesn't come up with a HORROR GENRE or anything you suggest???

(please wag pagpilitan ang gusto)

At least from an American perspective, I have to agree that this isn't really a horror genre show, even though a lot of the characters were inspired by mythology and monsters. The Incredible Hulk was originally based on Frankenstein but is in no way a horror comic today. This is definitely more of a telenovela/superhero genre. 182.18.208.3 (talk) 09:04, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Question: When does Darna ever use the weapons listed (other than the bracers)? I've gotten about 1/2 way through the series at this point and I haven't seen her use any shurikens or heat vision or anything like that. Also, while I know other versions give her telepathy and psionic abilities, do they ever say in this version that's the case? If not, I would suggest noting that other versions state this, but it may or may not be true for this version since it's a re-imagining of the character.182.18.208.3 (talk) 09:04, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted edits[edit]

  • i did ask to not revert it unless we reached a conclusion which edit to use, but you chose to revert it anyway. therefore it is considered as vandalism.
  • just because they have the same "genre" doesnt mean they are related shows. why dont you just chuck all series around the world with the same "genre" there as well.
  • ive explained each genre, and they are just small subgenres. however, these are genres, not the format after all. BADK is a crime series as it explores the depth of a crime family. gagambino and joaquin bordado can be considered as a thriller as it is "darker" than the average superheroseries. LV is a horror thriller series as introduced to the press. monsters in series does not mean its a horror, the film cloverfield has a monster and its not a horror. darna is like any other superhero movies, spiderman has "monsters" and it is not a horror genre.
  • exactly. the teasers youve seen as ones shown only in the US, therefore it is not updated per time in the philippines, then your source has questionable validity.
  • marian rivera is the main star as the title character. however, the starring section is a section dedicated to the main cast.
thank you. - ISWAK3 (talk) 08.49, 04 August 2009 (GMT)
  • http://www.gmanews.tv/video/45821/Marian-Rivera-shines-in-'Darna'-press-launch --- eddie garcia is included in the cast.
  • i have mentioned my reasons for the edit, however you have not.
  • i also removed trivia section. wikipedia is a enclopedia, not a trivia website. please restore this section in a different manner, ie. by creating a casting section and mentioning the trivias in paragraph form.
thank you. - ISWAK3 (talk) 20.38, 04 August 2009 (GMT)
  • Ok, but Thriller / Crime will still be in the article. I will not put Trivia section I will also leave starring section alone. —Preceding unsigned comment added by GMA Fan (talkcontribs)

Format / Philppine drama / Starring[edit]

  • ive explained the format of the show, the basis of the genre GMA Fan introduced (horror, crime, thriller) is has no basis. maybe thriller (but it is yet to be revealed on monday), but crime and horror, no as this is a superhero genre series, crime / horror series tackles the depth of that genre. maybe there is a little crime subplot or horror subplot, but that does not mean it is a crime or horror format series.
  • philippine drama is the english version of "teleserye". darna is a teleserye.
  • there is not just 3 "stars" in this series, starring section is a section for the main ones.
thank you. - ISWAK3 (talk) 107.32, 08 August 2009 (GMT)

09 August 2009 edits[edit]

  • removed "and" and "with" in starring section. there isnt just 3 stars in this series, those three are just plays the main characters.
  • maggie wilson is the correct stage name she is using, not mrgaret wilson.
  • reverted "main cast" etc. please wait til the real end credits for darna is revealed and re-order this list according to that.
  • i find this version of the synopsis [1] more indepth than this [2]. it is not needed to put a question in the end if its a synopsis. my opinion. please discuss here before further revertion.
thank you. - ISWAK3 (talk) 20.47, 09 August 2009 (GMT)

about the casts[edit]

please NOTE for the newbies: DO NOT CHANGE OR DELETE ACTORS WHO PLAY IMPORTANT ROLES... please do not edit the casts again.... we are only to change or add the cast and characters. if you try to violate this article, the moderator(s) would suspend you....

edits[edit]

  • ive removed cast and characters from the show who appeared in less than one episode,or unotable roles. we just cant keep listing names of actors who just appeared once or twice otherwise were gonna have a long list. therefore, ive only left the notable ones. if you wish to add the names ive removed, feel free to create a darna cast and characters page in wikipedia.
  • the photo is not darna's opening logo, but just a promotional logo.
  • removed wrong genres that has not basis, and also categories.
  • restored references and viewership rating in the introduction.
thank you. - ISWAK3 (talk) 01.16, 14 August 2009 (GMT)

massive conflict[edit]

  • not started by me this time. haha
  • i dont know why User_talk:Witchy2006 keeps on removing the ratings information on the reception section. it is cited and treated like a "box office" rankings, but as tv ratings. it is detailed, not just bullet points and has full sourced. maybe he is applying the "network war" influence his edits, thus removing the ratings.
  • about User:J0-r3L's introduction, it is rather "in your face" by saying this series is a reboot. in my opinion, it can be better presented if a "production section" is included. and reboots generally applies to tv series-series or film-series, ie the old batman films and then the new batman films, reboot in tv series in philippines can be like re-creating encantadia trilogy etc.
  • other than that, i find the page worthy enough. maybe updated every now and then (ie ratings, critical reception, cast and characters).
  • i consider the edit by User:Nanami_Kamimura is the best suited one: [3]. does anyone else think so too?
thank you. - ISWAK3 (talk) 22.11, 16 August 2009 (GMT)
  • If the ratings would be included, I believe that both the TNS and AGB should be added. This is what Witchy2006 was implying, that the page is being biased itself; especially on the AGB system ranking as what happened to the AGB Nielsen Philippine TV ratings controversy. But when if both would be inserted, then the page will clearly look like a blog.
So, the best choice is to remove the ratings section to avoid wars.

--79.72.144.110 (talk) 22:21, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    • i am not saying that the ratings should be removed. youre making it seem like that the section needs to be updated daily with each ratings being included - that is not my intention. just mention the pilot week, mention the peak rating and only update it when it beats its peak rating or if it falls to 30%.
thank you. - ISWAK3 (talk) 07.49, 17 August 2009 (GMT)

  • But then, other people will start complaining about the page being BIASED or unfair. There are TWO different rating system in the Philippines, TNS and AGB. And there are obviously 2 side here:

1) AGB: In the AGB rating, Darna is clearly having high peaks. But then this would start doubts, specially for what happened in the AGB Nielsen Philippine TV ratings controversy. And if you'll manage to insert this, the other side will start reacting because you're making them look bad.
2) TNS: In the TNS rating, Darna is not really doing well, so this is where the Darna side will start complaining as they don't want to insert it because they don't want anything that would make the show look bad.
3) Conclusion: So in conclusion, the ratings section is best NOT being placed to stop the network war going on in here.

or

4) You can insert the ratings, but DO NOT MENTION any of the rival shows or any ranking, to avoid conflict.
  • May Bukas Pa: In May Bukas Pa the article doesn't necessarily want to have competetion with the other show. No shows were mentioned in the rating section, yet they managed to put both AGB and TNS ratings.
  • Darna: While the ratings section in the Darna page, is more likely to tell the other shows, "in your face, we got a higher rating" by mentioning the other show's ratings. Although they only based the rating in one rating system, AGB. No TNS we're mentioned because they know that Darna has lower ratings in that system.

--79.72.144.110 (talk) 12:52, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think the ratings could be inserted, but should not be interpreted in any way. It should just be presented as is, like "Darna received a 44 point something ratings based form the AGB Nielsen Mega Manila Survey, etc. Just put every rating system possible. I think there are four kinds of ratings being published. The AGB Mega Manila, AGB Luzon Urban, TNS Mega Manila and the TNS National. AGB NUTAM is nowhere to be found, they might have stopped producing it.

As with judging AGB Nielsen's credibility, i think so far that is irrelevant since it wasnt proven (at least in legal courts) that ratings manipulation did really happen. And besides, AGB Nielsen is still the ratings system used widely in the philippines. 112.202.241.32 (talk) 20:31, 23 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 112.202.241.32 (talk) 20:26, 23 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Viewership[edit]

In its pilot episode, Darna managed to recieve 44.4% on its Mega Manila rating based on AGB. After quite a long time, this is the first GMA Network primetime series that was able to reach the 40+ mark since LaLola's 40.0% finale episode in six months prior. Moreover, in the national ratings based on TNS, Darna managed to get 35.4%, a little lower than its Mega Manila results.[1]

On national ratings based on TNS, the show's highest rating so far is 36% on August 12, 2009 while the lowest being 35.4% on August 13, 2009.[2] However, in Megamanila results surveyed by AGB, the highest peak Darna gained is 46.7% on its fourth episode, a little higher than its pilot episode. [3]

Here it is. Both Rating system mentioned. No conflict. No mentioned other shows. No ranking. No worries. --79.72.144.110 (talk) 13:32, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • i think its better to removed the ratings section and just leave reception section as critical reception. its better that way.
thank you. - ISWAK3 (talk) 19.07, 19 August 2009 (GMT)

can u move the character aleli in extended cast?[edit]

please can u move aleli (orxanne barcelo) in extended cast because she is one of minor characters and NOT main character!

please update these:[edit]

Update this in main cast:

  • Nadine Samonte as Roma / Babaeng Impakta (She-demon) - Roma has an angelic face but attached to her back lies her parasitic twin, Impy, who exerts influence to her to create havoc, which is against her will. Due to Impy, she can get victims' fresh hearts. She is the first one to fight against Darna until she gets separated from Impy by Darna. Roma is found by Gabriel and is in the care of Father Mateo. She becomes good-natured when Impy is no longer use of her.

Update these in extended cast:

  • Alfred Vargas as Gabriel Ramirez - He is a reporter and photographer who become closes to Narda as she follows Darna's stories, and he admires the good-natured Roma (Babaeng Impakta).
  • Eddie Garcia as Father Mateo - He is a priest who has a dark past. Father Mateo is the one who adopts Gabriel and takes care of Roma, who was separated from Impy by Darna.
  • Ricky Davao as Dr. Danilo Morgan - A scientist who came from a clan of experts; he is obsessed in making powerful creatures, and he has no other ambition but to capture Darna and make her his specimen. He is the one who found Darna's original enemies enclosed in iceberg.
  • Mura as Impy - Babaeng Impakta's demonic twin that makes her evil. Darna separates Impy from Roma so that she would be free from bad influences. After his defeat, he tries to find Roma but instead, he victimizes Eduardo, attaches him and puts him under control to seek revenge against Darna.

Put this in guest cast:

  • John Apacible as Nestor - Consuelo's drunk husband and Valentina's adopted father.

Indirect sequel?[edit]

What is the definition of an indirect sequel? I'll rmeove this one since this Darna series is a reboot of the franchise. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 112.202.241.32 (talk) 20:15, 23 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think by "indirect sequel" they mean that this version was written as a sequel character taking over from a previous Darna. So it is a sequel to a previous Darna, but it doesn't directly tell us which version (if any) it's a sequel to. 182.18.208.3 (talk) 09:10, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

john apacible[edit]

  • ive removed john apacible from the "guest cast" because he only appeared in 3 to 5 scenes in the pilot episode of darna. he did not play a major part, therefore he character is unotable. if anyone wants to add any "known actors/ress" in the guest cast, start listing them down, there is gonna be a lot, and loads of them do not play any major part.
thank you. - ISWAK3 (talk) 20.48, 24 August 2009 (GMT)

REQUEST FOR PROTECTION FROM VANDALISM![edit]

to any mods and semi-mods, please request for vandalism from users who has unknown IP address because they vandalize the whole Darna page.. Thank you. Take note: please SEMI-PROTECT this page from unregistered users. I'm editing this page for latest and I'm writing here clearly...

26 september edits[edit]

I've changed the cast and characters section --- I've included most of the cast into main cast, because they're the main cast! Rivera and Fernandez are the two lead characters not the MAIN CAST. I've also restored critical reception section. Peparazzi, just because (to you) this section doesn't make sense you have to remove it without better reasons. Explain why it does not make sense. I've also restored the last half of the introduction. Why was it removed? It was referenced, and still is. ISWAK3 (talk) 20.13, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

Marian and Mark Anthony should only be the starring cast! She's the title holder of the show and Mark Anthony's her love interest! Nothing else! Villains should only be in "Supporting" because they only come and go! Right after they die, they will just disappear in the show! The the "Critical Whatever" only makes the page look dirty! and it doesn't make any sense because it doesnt even relate to the show itself! its simply just blog opinions of people! and some it only makes the TV show look bad!--Peparazzi (talk) 22:09, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That is your opinion. Those in my edits for main cast are CREDITED MAIN CAST, just because Marian is the title character and Mark Antony is the leading man does not mean they are the only main cast. FYI there are some episde that Alfred Vargas and Iwa Moto, and even Nadine Samonte appears more than Mark Anthony. My edits is the CREDITED ones. How does it look dirty (the critial receptin)? It makes sense quoting from different sources, therefore it has correct citiations. Of course it relates to the show, they are not blog opinions they are written by newspaper writers (as seen through the citiations) and summarized here. So whay if it makes the TV show look bad? THAT IS WHY ITS A CRITICAL RECEPTION! ITS NOT ALWAYS POSITIVE!ISWAK3 (talk) 23.28, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
What the hell!!! Do you even know what "Extended" mean?!?!?! it means people who have guested in the show, ended up being part of the cast!!!! Guest means people who only guest for 1 or 2 episodes!!! Why dont you go and learn ENGLISH! properly instead of blabbering stuff here! and Nadine Samonte and Alfred Vargas are barely on the show anymore! Because Darna already beaten them!!! See, That is why they're only on supporting because they come and go!!! They quit the show right after they get beaten! And what exactly is the point of a Critical reception if it only makes the show bad! GOSH! if you love the show you wont let that happen! --Peparazzi (talk) 16:21, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No. Search the internet, "extended cast" refers to the cast members who are not part of the main ones, I'm not talking about just the word "extended", but the term. What's the point of having a "guest cast" when they were just there for 1 or 2 episodes? Waste of space on Wikipedia, I've only credited there the main. So what if they "are barely on the show anymore"? They are still CREDITED as part of it. Critical reception? That is why it was decided before to removed all ratings in this page, because it only shows one sided view. The critical reception shows an unbias reception showing both good and bad about the show, that is why its called a "critical reception", not "good reception". Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a promotional page for Darna. Now, I've re-arranged the "main cast" to the ones credited to the end credits of the series, I've included the new cast or people who is meant to be in the main cast but left the show already "forever". ISWAK3 (talk) 22.11, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
OH MY GOD! When will you ever understand! Extended means people who have guested on the show, but somehow became a part of it for a long time! Guest means people who have only been in the show for like a COUPLE OF EPISODES! Like Janice de Belen! or Jestoni Alarcon! Thefore, you're speculation is wrong! Do you get it now?!?!?! EXTENDED IS DIFFERENT FROM GUESTS!
JANICE DE BELEN IS NOT AN EXTENDED CAT! JESTONI ALARCON IS NOT AN EXTENDED CAST! AND THE OTHER ONES YOU HAVE INSERTED IS NOT AN EXTENDED CAST! THEY'RE GUEST CAST!--Peparazzi (talk) 22:10, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Fine, I'll give you the "guest" and "extended". But the order it is at the moment is the one featured in the end credits of the series. And why revert the whole page when you've only explained the edit for one section? ISWAK3 (talk) 18.10, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
So what is this, they're all Main Cast now?!? Some of them are Supporting you know! And I only reverted your edits!--Peparazzi (talk) 18:52, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes they are the MAIN CAST. Some of them maybe be supporting but they are part of THE CREDITED MAIN CAST. About the critical reception section, just because they make the series "look bad" it doesn't mean it's not valid. ISWAK3 (talk) 08.06, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

(resetting indent) Honestly, I don't watch Darna (our family's more of an ABS-CBN home), so I really have no idea which actor/actress is part of the "main cast" and "extended cast".

In this regard, both of you may perhaps want to read up on Television Wikiproject, which has its own manual of style. In particular, you may want to focus on the guidelines for writing about the cast of characters. Note that the TV MOS doesn't make a distinction between "main" and "supporting" character, only "main" and "recurring" characters. An example of this is the article about the List of characters in South Park, which only has extra categories to better organize the list (i.e. the list of school characters and family characters are separated from the main charactersfor better organization, the "supporting" characters contain those that don't belong to any of the preceding categories).

The other alternative is to just list all the characters in one place (perhaps by first naming those whose names appear in the opening credits, and then listing the supporting/one-time characters after) (see Cast of Baywatch for an example, which is sorted only according to the two different Baywatch shows, not by "main/extended/supporting" cast). However, given the predilection of the studio giants to invite as many guest actors/actresses as possible, the list for this TV show will surely be long ang unreadable (unless both of you agree to sort them either alphabetically, or according to the episode/week when the character first appeared (which would mean you'll really need to keep tabs on every episode)).

Seriously, guys, keep it cool, this is essentially an issue that can be resolved in a more amicable way. Try to work out which approach is best for this article. Para walang away, I suggest you just stick with Narda/Darna and Ding as the main characters, then figure out how to best sort the other characters. Thanks. --- Tito Pao (talk) 08:40, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In addition, when using emphasis, please avoid using caps as much as possible. Preferably use bold since it's easier on the eyes, and it makes it appear that neither of you are shouting. Thanks! --Sky Harbor (talk) 14:37, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Alleged "copyvio", tag removed[edit]

This is a notice and a short explanation on why I removed the copyvio tag on this article. You can find the nitty-gritty [User talk:79.78.35.252 on the anon IP user's talk page].

I investigated the link quoted on the tag and, as it turns out, it was a blog post. The date on the blog post reads "August 28, 2009". (This is the Google cache link, in case the blog author modifies the date to make it look "older" than the Darna 2009 article.)

I have a reason to believe that there is a huge shadow of doubt on how and why the copyvio tag was removed. As mentioned, I've left a message on the anon's user talk page, and is awaiting his reply. Thanks. --- Tito Pao (talk) 03:27, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The anon is a sock of the banned Witchy2006. Please see this. --Sky Harbor (talk) 03:53, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The funny thing is, if you look at the blog, it contains links to rapidshare uploads of TV series and movies I *suspect* isn't the property of the blog owner. So much for copyright. Perhaps the owner of these IPs should be notified of "copyright violation" issues? :P Shrumster (talk) 06:27, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The tag was placed with the wrong source. The original source of the text is this and it does predate the addition to this article. I have chopped out the text, some interested party can go in and repair the synopsis. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 11:09, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
