First Person?[edit]

This sentence appears to in first person, "Datamation published a piece of mine called Excuse me, what was that? that documented a Today Show interview by Tom Brokaw of John Peers, who was demonstrating his company's speech recognition system." The Wikipedia's Manual of style section on Usage mentions that it should be avoided. Rabourn (talk) 03:19, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dates of publication contradict[edit]

The article states that datamation was published from 1957 - 1998. Later on it refers to a column being dropped in 2001. 82.10.238.54 (talk) 17:21, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rightholders?[edit]

Google books has scanned some volumes, but they are all in snippet view.

If the magazine folded, as opposed to being acquired, who owns the rights to the articles? internet.com has a site that datamation.com redirects to, but that's not the same as ownership of the rights to print or reprint the articles. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.101.136.61 (talk) 17:31, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

ABC's[edit]

Does anyone have the issue with the humorous ABCs of computing? The only one I remember now is "C is for COBOL, what a pity. It was designed by a committee.". DonPMitchell (talk) 20:41, 10 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If we're doing requests, show the cover where it's a "Charles Atlas" bully on the beach cartoon parody, "The insult that made a MANager out of Mac"; I can't find it anywhere. It was so popular, they even printed a poster of it.

It had lines like: "That man is the worst nuisance in the ACM!"

and: "Gosh darn it, I'm tired of running batch mode! Datamation says I can get a demand terminal. What the heck, I got nothing to lose!"

and: "Wow, what thruput! Those reports won't be late again!"

and: "Here's the report I owe you (as he punches the bully in the face with a fist holding a 132-column printout)

and the famous last line: "Is that a banana in his pants?" "No, he's just glad to see her". The mag got so many complaints by uptight '65 pre-revolution nerds that in the next issue, they had to explain that it's a widely-repeated Mae West quote.

I was the only girl programmer in the division then, and I was still in college. I remember being terribly, terribly embarrassed by that Datamation cover, even though I thought it was really cool. I couldn't even walk past where it was on the wall if a man was near! But that was when I was a horribly shy geek. Since then, I've WISED UP and will fcck any man, anywhere, any time, the way God intended.

Also, are there any sites that show all the Datamation covers? If someone made that site, they could sell high-priced ads, because the ONLY people who would visit would be senior IT managers. Obscure languages?[edit]

"The INTERCAL programming language was designed to make programs as obscure as possible."
