Reference format[edit]

This article currently uses the {{ref}} / {{note}} style of reference formatting. It is my view that use of the <ref> tag is clearer, more maintainable, and produces a better result. I think this is particularly true where, as in this article, the same citation is often used in multiple places. Ref tags with named references handle this almost automatically, getting the ref/note templates to do the same is rather more complex and fragile. I would further advocate for list-defined references to clean up the text of the article, and for the use of citation templates. However the current system is specifically allowed by Wikipedia:Footnotes, and Wikipedia:Footnotes#Caution on converting citation styles urges that consensus be sought for changes. (See also WP:CITE.) I hereby ask for such consensus. DES (talk) 21:34, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support change of format. I agree completely. – ukexpat (talk) 21:40, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, the current refs in the article look non-standard and messy. - Fayenatic (talk) 08:00, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
