Sources[edit]

This article sounds like it has been copied from a website with a biography of the horse. The wording included emotive language and one race was described far too detailed to be an encyclopedia article. If someone could find the original source, reword the article, cite the source and get some more sources that would be great, I will in the future but I don't have time at the moment.James086 14:40, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There are no sources as I wrote this article myself this morning and I can remember the events described clearly (unless I'm going senile). The style seems to me to be consistent with other horses' biographies on the site, but feel free to edit it as you think necessary. Ronniesh2000 15:35, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dawn Run early races[edit]

I was a big fan of Deep Run as a sire and went racing twice a week in the early 1980's. I saw Dawn Run in her first 10 races. My recollection is that Mrs. C.D. Hill her owner, did not ride her in her first 2 races. I am pretty sure it was Tom Mullins who rode her in the first two. Different tactics were employed in each - In one she made the running and in the other she came from behind at the business end. The third run was in Listowel and I remember it well. Some of my friends from Carrick-on-Suir and disctrict, including Nicky Coghlan from Windgap, Richard O'Gorman from Templeorum (he still thinks I drive to fast), travelled down to back a horse in the bumper to be ridden by John McEnery from Kilmoganny. The racing papers were full of the story that this would be Mrs Hill's last race in public as the Jockey Club were not going to renew her licence to ride. It struck me that Paddy Mullins had set this up as a winning finale for his owner. She used to travel up from Waterford to Goresbridge to ride out almost every day. I backed Dawn Run that day, and she duly obliged and gave her owner one of the best day's of her life. Paddy Mullins must have had a wry smile that day. His genius was proven once again. Dawn Run went on to win the Winners Bumper at Galway on "concrete" ground with Tom Mullins in the saddle. The fact she could win on ground like that which she hated showed how good she was in those early days. Ron Barry should have won on her on her first visit to Cheltenham but he did not make enough use of her front running abilities from my point of view.
