Untitled[edit]

A citation may be required seeming as this subject was started too soon after Daz won the BBC's Making Your Mind Up show. In which case, the Biography may be a direct duplicate from an external source. This matter has been resolved by deletion

I'm not sure why you say the matter has been resolved, since the material is present now (perhaps someone came back and posted the same content?), but it seems to come from http://www.dazsampson.co.uk/ - ThomasHarte 01:13, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The copyright issue has been resolved. Current information is minimal and therefore not duplicated.

Nevertheless, copyright law protects authors from having their work illegally duplicated. It remains stored on wikipedia in the page history, which is itself a breach of copyright. The aim of the copyvio template is to alert admins to content that needs to be completely removed from the wikipedia servers - which editing does not achieve. In respect to the information stolen from dazsampson.co.uk, wikipedia is still in legal breach.
In addition, Wikipedia:Copyright problems is explicit that "Pages should stay listed for a minimum of 7 days before a decision is made." You seem to keep removing the copyvio notice but you seem to be taking it upon yourself to make a decision after only 1 day without admin duties. Regardless of whether you think it should have been listed in the first place, now that it has been it should stay so for 7 days. There is a mechanism is in place to allow extra content to be added in the meantime, which you seem to be ignoring.
As an edit war is always undesirable, I will post to your talk page, asking for a response to these comments before once again restoring the {{copyvio}} template - ThomasHarte 16:59, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Misunderstanding about the copyright article still being kept in History page. This I had forgotten about and I apologise for removing the copyright violation.

Resemblance[edit]

Yes, yes, some people thinks he looks like Ian Huntley. Well done for noticing. Now please stop vandalising the page or provide a reference for his alledgedly being cast as in a TV show as Huntley. Thank you. --Stenun 20:33, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I would like to know more about the connection between Sampson and Huntley. How does b3ta.com fit in?

Daz might have been photoshopped a few times on that site...

also the few b3tan who have shopped images are not the reflection of b3ta owners and would like to inorm you we do not condone the vandalism of this site but on that note we do see a worrying link between this issue now that we do it is a good idea to address it SICKIPIDEA but he is not a nonce KEN HOM IS, like ian and daz

I can't see how stating the fact that his web forum has been taken down due to it being full of accusations of him being a kiddy fiddler is vandalism. It's a fact, obviously a lot of people object to him cavorting with tarty schoolgirls in his eurovideo and feel he looks very much like 'a poor man's Ian Huntley.

Is Ian Huntley the rich man's Ian Huntley then? Cor, I'm going to buy one.

Stenum, ur Huntley/Sampson's fan boy. Why are you cvvering up the awful truth? A convicted paedomurdererist on the Eurotunnel Contest! (his screws are with him even at eurovision)

Please sign off your comments! This is basic Wikipedia coutesy. Thank You! --Siva1979Talk to me 20:14, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If you have some GENUINE evidece of a connection between Ian Huntley and Daz Sampson then please present it and source it. Otherwise, grow up and stop making these infantile and offensive accusations. --Stenun 20:22, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Your gay for him. Quo --SUser:QuoUser talk:Quo 01:14, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Firstly, in the context you have used it the correct syntax is "you're" not "your". "You're" is the shortened version of "you are" whereas "your" indicates possession. If you are going to be a wikipedia editor/contributor you should at least learn the correct use of basic grammar. Secondly, you cannot be "gay for someone". You are either gay or you are not, it is not selective. It would be like accusing someone of being French only while in Peru. Either they are French all the time or they are not French at all. Thirdly, this is the 21st Century and I am therefore somewhat surprised that there are still some people, such as yourself obviously, who consider it an insult to call someone "gay". I suggest you relax a little, do a little reading about homosexuality, realise there is nothing wrong with it and then maybe watch and enjoy Brokeback Mountain, or maybe just D.E.B.S. --Stenun 14:24, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No your wrong. The meerkats will explain all: http://www.yourallgay.com Quo --SUser:QuoUser talk:Quo 14:25, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh I see. So you're the sort of person who purposefully uses the incorrect version of "you're" just so you can respond to anyone who corrects you with this "hilarious" animation, I take it? You think this makes you cool? --Stenun 18:05, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No, he's the sort of person who enjoys winding you up and watching you waste a paragraph attempting to pick the phrase 'Your all gay' apart.

which makes your homosexuality seem more likely --Stenunisghey

My initial reaction upon seeing this comment was to burst out laughing. For a brief moment I thought this person was sad enough to actually have set up a wikipedia account with a handle purely designed to attack me. Unfortunately, no such luck, this comment was actually posted by the following IP address: 217.44.128.137 . --Stenun 00:36, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
But "your all gay" didn't wind me up. I just saw it as symptomatic of the below average intelligence already displayed. What "wound me up" was the rather distasteful constant attempts to link an innocent man with paedophilia and child killing. --Stenun 12:55, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Blimey, you didn't half put some effort into taking the fun out of it.
I fail to see what part of accusing an innocent man of being a paedophile and a child killer is "fun". If the page had been vandalised to say he was a space alien from the planet Thrag I probably wouldn't have cared, but the events of Soham and the actions of Ian Huntley are not exactly prime comedy material. --Stenun 06:05, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand why this is so controversial. Look at this year's Finnish entry - Lordi! Just because Sampson happens to look exactly like Ian Huntley and appears in his video cavorting with semi-clothed schoolgirls. At least he doesn't appear in a bathroom with them! - J.A. Rank

Any mentio of his age? He claims to be 32 but looks nearer 40.

  • I don't think that this should even be discussed to whether Daz Sampson looks like Ian Huntley as it is obvious vandalism, Wikipedia is about maintain NPOV and that would obviously be based on someones POV and it just seems to be mindless and childish vandalism. Englishrose 22:17, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • I disagree. It is patently obvious that he looks like Ian Huntly, only more dodgy. Perhaps this article should mention his proteges, the Kersal Massive and his nemisis the BBC Ambulance Men. 217.41.233.82 12:10, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Real name?[edit]

Does anyone know what his real name is? I doubt that 'Daz' is what's on his passport . . . ;) Dbratton 23:00, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind, it's Darren. I should have done some research before asking. I'll update to show this. Dbratton 23:03, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Also added a redirect from Darren Sampson to this page. Dbratton 23:14, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
In English law, a person's "real name" is not what is stated on his/her passport (if they even have one) but (short of fraud) whatever they choose it to be. --Ross UK 17:09, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

12th May Edit - Daily Record[edit]

Thank you to the editor who has actually provided sources for the modifications that s/he made, they improve the quality of the article immesurably. However given that one of the quotes was potentially inflammatory and unsourced, I have taken it out for now. But if you can find a link to the article in question (or even any other article with similar sentiments) please feel free to put it back in and source it. --Stenun 13:12, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Protection[edit]

I'm protecting this page again, given the near-constant pointless juvenile edits that are being made by anonymous users. Hopefully the vandalism will taper off after Eurovision on the 20th of May. Dbratton 13:19, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You have to be an admin to protect pages, simply adding the notice doesn't do it automatically. See Wikipedia:Requests for page protection, but I don't think protection is needed and I'm not sure other admins would. The vandalism problem isn't that serious, and this article is going to need updating soon. the wub "?!" 15:50, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I underestimated the seriousness of a semi-protect - I should have done more than just skim the associated article. Thanks for the info, and hopefully editors here will be able to keep things under control. :) Dbratton 16:36, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I'm getting sick of people trolling about this whole "Ian Huntley" issue. --Lord Deskana Dark Lord of the Sith 18:00, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is the Huntley/b3ta thing not now noteworthy in its own right, though? It is a fact that it has happened, and not including it is possibly censorship of "unkind" truths. As long as it in NPOV, I think it could well deserve a mention86.131.204.221 12:04, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There's no way to make it NPOV. I intend to block anyone who adds references to Ian Huntley or related topics into this article. It's not right, so don't do it. End of discussion. --Lord Deskana Dark Lord of the Sith 10:01, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
So you mean there is no possible way, conceptually, to have a neutral point of view? In which case your whole wikipedia is fundamentally flawed. If you are suggesting it is just the subject matter, i would love to hear your justification for the existence of objective knowledge. -- A Disappointed reader. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.35.108.38 (talkcontribs) 20:00, 18 May 2006 (UTC).[reply]
Making references to someone looking like Ian Huntley is not something to be taken lightly. --Lord Deskana Dark Lord of the Sith 19:21, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It is somebody's personal point of view to whether he looks like Huntley, thus should not be included. Englishrose 21:29, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
A lot of people think he does look like Huntley and has styled his image on him - hence the schoolgirls. Why is the sandwich maker getting so worked up about this? 81.19.57.146 12:03, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Unless you have something civil to say, or something that's not a personal attack, I'm not going to feed you, since you're obviously just trolling. --Lord Deskana Dark Lord of the Sith 12:11, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Still not totally clear why the whole b3ta incident is not allowed to be mentioned. Please note I have not once edited the actual article, and so have not been involved in any vandalism, but I do think that for a lot of people b3ta is an important part of Daz's Eurovision story. The recent addition saying that the claims of inappropriateness in his under-age schoolgirl dancers from the b3ta community was deemed irrelevant. Why? This is a website of some importance to many people, and have been vocal in their criticism. 86.131.204.221 16:01, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Removal Of Hype[edit]

The chart success is too over blown for a single that only made #12 in the sales charts. No need for it to be mentioned twice in long form. Also, the source that says he could have been responsible for the 10% growth in viewership is HIS OWN SITE. Cite another source that says the 10% growth is possibly due to him. It's highly doubtful. Did the viewing figures for Eurovision stay stagnant for years on end, then he came in and upped it 10% or do they go up and down every year depending on what people are doing at the time? His own website, which is made for the purpose of promoting him, is not enough for such a claim of success. 74.65.39.59 02:54, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

    • The figures have been going down for the last 6 years until this year when Daz entered. It's not just a coincidence. I've reworded it and added another source. Englishrose 12:04, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
      • The contest also had stiffer competition than previous years, with the Prince's Trust charity concert rivaling the contest from ITV. Englishrose 12:11, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Stop hyping this man. This is wikipedia, not a fan site. What your saying is not true. If so many, many people were watching it "just because of Daz", then why didn't they buy his record? The song didn't even make the top 10! Quite clearly it wasn't that popualr going by solid fact based on the songs populartiy with the British record buying public/music fans. He is not the reason millions of people tuned in to watch the contest. 74.65.39.59 14:20, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • I've been editing wikipedia for quite a long time now, so don't accuse me of turning this into a fan site. I am well aware of what wikipedia is, so are the other three editors that you have called fans. The wording of the paragraph is correct. Englishrose 16:04, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I you don't want to be accused of turing this into fan hype then don't do it. Editing a page to make it look like a mans single didn't even sell well enough to get into the top 10 is resposible for such a huge amount of people watching is ridiculous. 74.65.39.59 17:34, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am certainly no fan of Daz Sampson but see no problem with the current wording which is factual and accurate. Robertsteadman 16:10, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is not accruate. While the current source confirms the viewing figures it makes no mention of Daz at all in any way being responsible to the increased figures, infact it credits a lot of the increasd figures on people switiching over after the princes trust concert, clearly nothing to do with Daz at all and it should be noted!! 74.65.39.59 17:31, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Song is now at #8 in the UK top 40. Have added more information from the source provided in the article. 205.188.117.11 21:22, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spacekats[edit]

Interesting that another of his creations "Spacekats" whose music was featured in In the Groove seems to have disappeared. I wonder if it has anything to do with his brand new song Teenage Life being a bad ripoff of his older song (IMO) Teenage Life under the Spacekats name Xchbla423 05:31, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nr. 3 in Holland?[edit]

No way! What is the source? Eurovision entries don't become hits anymore in the Netherlands these days, except sometimes winners and our own entries. Not British entries that only ended #16. Dinsdagskind 23:05, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

22 or 23[edit]

I say tyhat the equal point position has only been settled on alphabetical term which is not correct. Where as the official rules regarding a tie-break state that the number of 12 points given to a country shall break the deadlock and as the UK got one set of 12 points (from malta) and France recieved zero twelve point scores the UK by the letter of the rules came 22nd not 23rd.--Lucy-marie 14:37, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think that I read on the Eurovision Song Contest page that where there is a tie it is done based on which song got votes from the most countries. TomPhil 17:51, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He looks like a mass murderer?[edit]

In this edit we say that Daz Sampson looks like a mass murderer. The comment is sourced to a blog site called www.hecklerspray.com. Any thoughts on this? Is it relevant if the guy looks like a mass murderer? (Half the people on the street do! Is the HecklerSpray website a reliable source? Lester 06:01, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There's a discussion on this higher up this page. There is no way that such content is appropriate in this article. It's unencyclopedic for a start, and a violation of WP:BLP. I try to keep an eye out for such edits, but if you see it added, please revert it immediantely. Thanks. TomPhil 10:16, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Age of Girl Choir[edit]

On this article it states...

"The accompanying dance routine involved 4 young women dressed as schoolgirls,"

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=wVQkPpyug4I&feature=related

Somewhere he watched an interview and he said were aged 16 and 17 before eurovision. but i cant find it.

Just think it needs investigating.
