notable thing about Dead Ringers[edit]

Jeremy Irons does a tour de force in portraying Elliot and Beverly as distinctly different personalities, and the 1988 technical level split screen effects showing Elliot and Beverly in the same frame seamlessly were impessive for their day. Naaman Brown (talk) 01:16, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

inconsistency[edit]

"The film is very loosely based on the lives of Stewart and Cyril Marcus.[2]" "Although Dead Ringers closely follows the case of Stewart and Cyril Marcus, director Peter Greenaway claims himself and his film A Zed and Two Noughts as the source for Dead Ringers.[9]"

Having recently read the "Dead Ringers" essay from The Secret Parts of Fortune, I would say that the film follows the real case (or at least what is known about it) closely. Of course there are several Cronenbergian additions (deformed vagina, strange tools, the final surgery). Also the character of Claire Niveau is invented. But there are many details that seem to be taken directly from The Secret Parts of Fortune, such as probable Beverly's stroke, extreme unwillingness of the brothers to hand patient's files, their effort to "keep the front" to the very end, the nightmarish fake birthday party and Beverly's last short trip outside. --Jvs (talk) 18:02, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
