Image copyright problem with File:Delhiuniversity.jpg

The image File:Delhiuniversity.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --03:52, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Irrelevant/strange information

The article says that there are 14 faculties. I believe that "faculty" is understood in the sense "teaching staff", not "teaching body linked to one or several academic disciplines".

Also, while the reference to U Delhi having "2,20,000" students is consistent with the source (the U's website), it doesn't say whether the actual number is "2,200,000" or "220,000". Maxcanada (talk) 18:04, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

Translation of motto

Can someone please translate the motto into English. --128.84.198.34 (talk) 13:24, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

Copyvio

Most of all of the article is a copyvio from the university site and will need to be completely rewritten. The lists of faculties and college, being strictly factual and impossible to present otherwise can probably stay. DGG ( talk ) 01:27, 20 September 2009 (UTC)

Request

can somebody write a little description of environment of DU like buildings parks culture etc. Please create a gallery on commons and add good images of campus and colleges. --Bigsuperindia (talk) 21:53, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

lately i discovered about The School of Open Learning [a part of the Campus of Open Learning] formerly known as The School of Correspondence Courses and Continuing Education, established under the University of Delhi in 1962, is a pioneer Institution in the field of Distance Education in India. The School of Open Learning. A little description on how DU has helped in providing quality education through The School of Open Learning can be included. Please consider it also. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bigsuperindia (talkcontribs) 22:08, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

Restructure

Considerations for now

  • Images of Department's premises.
  • Short Description of each landmark of DU if possible.

I think the article is taking some shape but still needs some considerations like north campus. Details about premises of departments. If i get a chance to visit DU, i'll try to take some good images. If anyone else can do it then it will be highly appreciated. --Onef9day (talk) 00:39, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

came across University of Texas at Austin. It is really nice article and well written. --Swaminworld (talk) 07:41, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

DCE is now DTU

DCE was a part of University of Delhi.....but now is a autonomous University of it's own as Delhi Technological University.....I guess this should be edited 122.173.205.0 (talk) 16:54, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

Cut Off List?

There's a section devoted to statistics on the "cut off list" but the section doesn't explain what this means. Presumably it will be clear to currently attending students and perhaps the alumni, but to others such as me, it's inexplicable. Perhaps an explanation could be added? Wrong Picture

The image depicting University of Delhi is actually an image of SRCC college. Either remove it or replace it with the correct image ( the white building) Aashish.gupta (talk) 11:57, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

What proof do you have that this is a SRCC? — Bill william comptonTalk 13:25, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
My bad, i confused it with SRCC beacuse of the clock in the tower, but main University of Delhi building is white in colour not red. ( from google search and the best I could get on net, http://www.icpe2005.net/images/university_of_delhi.jpg) Aashish.gupta (talk) 15:30, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
That image is actually of University of Delhi's Faculty of Arts. Aashish.gupta (talk) 15:34, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Yeah thats right.I am a student of the university. The photo is the arts faculty building.Remove the photograph and add the Vice Chancellor's office's photograph - that was originally the Viceregal Lodge.please refer to www.du.ac.in to get the required photograph.Sahitrobo (talk) 09:31, 21 July 2012 (UTC)Sahil Mathur

About New Delhi (section)

Is it really relevant on this Wikipedia article? Or can it be replaced with a link to the New Delhi article? The Transportation subsection is the only subsection that appears to have anything of relevance to the rest of the article.Askthepatrick (talk) 10:59, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Orphaned references in University of Delhi

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of University of Delhi's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "cwg":

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 18:25, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

4icu Ranking should be clarified or removed

According to their website: "The aim of this website is to provide an approximate popularity ranking of world Universities and Colleges based upon the popularity of their websites. This is intended to help international students and academic staff to understand how popular a specific University/College is in a foreign country. We do not claim - by any means - to rank organisations or their programs, by the quality of education or level of services provided. The 4icu.org University Web Ranking is not an academic ranking and should not be adopted as the main criteria for selecting a higher education organization where to study."

Seems odd to have a short article about a university students' union. I've certainly not seen one outside of India-based universities and I don't see the point of it. Sitush (talk) 17:47, 8 September 2019 (UTC)

Search Google.co.in for "DUSU". Huge levels of coverage, going back for years. WBGconverse 17:50, 8 September 2019 (UTC)
Oh yes, I am sure there is plenty of coverage but that doesn't mean it is a good idea to have an article for it - it just means Indian media have a (probably) unique fascination with such organisations. - Sitush (talk) 17:51, 8 September 2019 (UTC)
Not finding much fault with media, FWIW. If we were talking 'bout the adjacent JNUSU, they have consistently produced some of the most reputed/popular politicians of the left-wing and it's elections have had national ramifications. Post the rise of Modi, there have been continued efforts to saffronize the Marxist (and to an extent, Sub-Altern) culture, leading to national fracases like the JNU sedition row and others. So, it's fair to have their elections covered.
Not sure that the elections of DU are so vital and WP:NOPAGE can certainly apply to an extent but I am not (yet) able to make up my mind, either ways .... WBGconverse 18:02, 8 September 2019 (UTC)
The article seems to have been used over the years almost entirely to recount DUSU elections, which is rather navel-gazing. I know there are some notable people who served DUSU but that can be said in their own articles, we have a category for its Presidents, and we can summarise in the main university article. Reports of student political bodies in India are easy to find in mainstream media, including for bodies that relate to only subsets of students, such as the numerous dalit-based organisations. Getting a mention via press releases in a slavish media is not difficult - local politicians in the UK do it every day but, at least here, student union bodies struggle. (NB: the Oxford and Cambridge Unions are debating societies, not student unions intended for welfare etc). - Sitush (talk) 06:53, 9 September 2019 (UTC)
  • Don't Support - I strongly don't support the move, first I don't see any need to merge the page with a student union page, there is no need of such a move, no other FA or GA articles of Universities are done in such a manner. Secondly, the student union page is a STUB and more seems political, just a line about the Union and more about the leaders from particular party/parties, no back ground and history of Union, structure of the union, nothing is there. Better not to done such a move. Dey subrata (talk) 00:43, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
The proposal is for the DUSU article to be merged into this one, not the other way round. I agree that the section heading is confusing - it was automatically generated by Twinkle when I selected the "merge to" option while at the DUSU article. I see that you have edited the DUSU article to propose deletion and the tag there is correct, ie: "It has been suggested that this article be merged into University of Delhi." - Sitush (talk) 02:54, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
  • Support merger in the given stub-state of the article. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 13:24, 24 September 2019 (UTC)
  • Support Merge - It should be merged as it is just coming under the University administration and would be better to add it to that main page to add information there rather than creating a new article. Also their is lack of WP:GNG, in this union article. Satisfied with @Sitush:.

Rocky 734 (talk) 13:51, 24 November 2019 (UTC)

  • support merger of "Delhi University Students' Union" in "University of Delhi". I agree DUSU has plenty of coverage. But we can keep/maintin the current article (content) efficiently in "University of Delhi". If substantial encyclopaedic content can be created about DUSU, and not just "current body", and how they were elected/sacked; then the article can be split. As an added advantage: that way, the content will also come under eyes of readers, and watchlist of editors. A few minutes ago, I removed promotion which was not supported by sources, and edits like these can be undone soon. —usernamekiran (talk) 16:44, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
  • Support merger per user:usernamekiran. I just removed mention of the election of a relatively minor position. Article is currently nothing but a listing of recent non-notable presidents and a few lines about activism and unnamed members who wen ton to bigger things. Anything useful can be merged. Meters (talk) 06:45, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
  • yeah, special:History/Delhi University Students' Union is full of IPs, and SPAs; mostly IPs spamming promotion. —usernamekiran (talk) 07:05, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

University of DelhiDelhi University – As per WP:COMMONNAME. University of Delhi is the official name, but except for official channels and list of rankings, it is rarely used. The faculty, students, alumni, general populace and the media all either refer it to as Delhi University or as DU (nickname derived from Delhi University). The worldwide google trend for last 12 months [1] shows Delhi University being searched 4 times more than University of Delhi. When DU is added to the trends, it dwarfs University of Delhi by 14 times [2] (this result only includes searches in India as "du" is a popular French term, rendering all worldwide results useless). Just recent articles (within last 3 days) in all top media houses refer to as Delhi University or DU [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] Roller26 (talk) 14:20, 8 October 2020 (UTC)

To request the removal of Narendra Modi under 'Notable alumni'

Narendra Modi being an alumnus of Delhi University is just a claim, it hasn't been proven yet. The inclusion of unverified information in any article is a violation of Wikipedia rules, according to my perspective.
