Merging charters and chapters

@Jax MN and @Naraht Looking for input on merging the tables of charters and chapters. This is an unusual situation because of the number and longevity of charters. Normally, there is not much mixing of colonies and chapters because of their founding dates or a lack of a founding date for a colony. But, in this case, I think merging by founding date might cause more confusion that help. Thoughts? @Naraht Chartered is their term for colony. There were a few that moved up to chapter and were assigned a Greek letter name. Rublamb (talk) 05:20, 26 January 2023 (UTC)

OK, I *think* we can unwrap everything at https://deltaphiomega.org/history/ . I *think* the dates in both the charter and chapter sections are the date that they were chartered, with the additional date not in the table that they received their letter(s) and became a chapter. So (for example). University of Florida received their charter on April 13, 2003 but became a *chapter*, in fact Sigma chapter on August 10, 2014. This *sort of* feels like having a separate list for colonies, but even there, it's wierd. I'll give it some thought.Naraht (talk) 05:24, 26 January 2023 (UTC)

Those "charter" names sure get long. I wish Delta Phi Omega had opted to use the standard definition of what that word meant, simply, a charter being a document that empowers a chapter to work and establishes its date of creation. In this they may have followed another multicultural group and replicated an error, maybe seeking somehow to avoid use of the word "colony". Yet that word is present in the opening lede. While I note that Rublamb said it is their term for a colony, I've not seen an internal description of what they intended with this new usage. I think some of the NMGC groups use it as a middle level of operations, below chapter, and above "Associate Chapter". Jax MN (talk) 05:23, 30 January 2023 (UTC)

Short description

I'm not convinced that the Short Description should be "{{Short description|American South Asian college sorority}}", where previously it had been "{{Short description|American South Asian-interest collegiate sorority}}"

The latter, with the word "-interest" signifies an affinity or programme of interest to all members. Without that language, stating it is a South Asian college sorority, this has several potential meanings. It could be an organization popular in South Asian countries, or for colleges made up of South Asian students. See? Jax MN (talk) 20:46, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
