migrant labour[edit]

migrants from bengal, bihar,up are concentrated in and aroud perumbavoor. population of migrant labours are highest in perumbavoor followed by equal numbered in muvattupuzha, kakkanad and aluva region. it is shocking to see migrant labours slowly penetrating into rural regions in thodupuzha and northern idukki district. it is also true that there are some pockets in south kerala where migrant labours are increasingly seen like chengannur I am told. but not comparable to the number in perumbavoor, muvattupuzha area. 59.93.2.127 (talk) 15:26, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Have replaced the religion wise population details with data from the official Kerala Govt website as per the 2001 census. I think the data there is more credible than that from ORG survey of 2004. Will231982 15:26, 29 October 2006 (UTC)Will231982[reply]

Languages of Kerala[edit]

I need the breakup of linguistic data: How many Hindus speak Malayalam? How many Muslims speak Malayalam? How many Christians speak Malayalam? What is the population of Urdu speakers? What is the population of Hindi speakers? What is the population of Telugu speakers? Please help. Anwar 19:37, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There definitely is a Tamil speaking minority in Kerala, I've heard around 4% though —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.52.215.67 (talk) 17:41, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

is it true that many castes in kollam and trivandrum districts are native tamil people who adopted malayalam? is it why the slang sounds like tamil spoken in southern tamilnadu? the castes in questions are nadars, chakkiliyar, mukkuvar etc who are basically tamilians. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.93.2.127 (talk) 15:28, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

broken link for sources[edit]

New census website is http://www.censusindia.gov.in - someone should find replacements for the broken links. —Random832 20:20, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Most populous city versus urban agglomeration[edit]

Extended content

According to Census of India 2001,[1] following are the list of Class I Major Towns classified as Urban Agglomerations..

City/Town Population Rank
Kochi 1,355,972 1
Thiruvananthapuram 889,635 2
Kozhikode 880,247 3
Thrissur 498,207 4
Kollam 380,091 5
Kannur 330,122 6
Palakkad 282,675 7
Alappuzha 197,369 8
Kottayam 172,878 9
Malappuram 170,409 10
Cherthala 141,558 11
Guruvayoor 138,681 12
Kasaragod 129,367 13
Vadakara 124,083 14

I removed this table which shows Kochi city as more populous than Trivandrum (contradicts the 2011 census) and replaced it {{Major cities in Kerala}}. Even the source present says Kochi in terms of UA not city. ‑Ugog Nizdast (talk) 17:10, 21 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Synthesis of Aryan and Dravdian[edit]

I reverted this edit. The content does not support the Aryan Invasion Theory but only asserts that there is a synthesis. I added one more reference to a book by historian A. Sreedhara Menon. There is no need to go into a discussion that it is a theory here since it was never supported by the text in the first place. Ugog Nizdast (talk) 10:03, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong information[edit]

The article lists some Taluks as having lowest/highest birth rate as per census 2011. This is totally incorrect as census data are not tabulated at this level. In fact, census data on births are unreliable at even state level due to recall lapse and other errors and are not used.
