Redirect[edit]

Have redirected on the basis of failing WP:GNG. Player was previously deemed notable under the WP:NAFL for having played one Victorian Football League game, but this SNG no longer exists after WP:NSPORTS2022. Redirected to the player list article rather than deleted based on previous AfDs for similar situations, e.g. Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Graham_Kemp.

All references in the article are database, Holmesby & Main, and one news reference which only lists his name among other players in the army. His entire Holmesby & Main entry reads "SYMONDS, DEREK (MELB.) - 1939, 1 game, 0 goals. (No. 35, b. 11 Nov 1918, 175cm, 71kg) Ex-Yea.", no better than a database and not WP:SIGCOV. His Demonwiki page, usually the most thorough source on Melbourne players, is little better, adding only a couple of other passing references to his time in country football. Google search for derek symonds melbourne shows up databases and wikis only [1]. A newspaper search for "Symonds Melbourne Football" [2] yielded a couple of routine mentions of his debut only, while searching Symonds Yea Football [3] showed up a higher volume of still-routine mentions in match reports from a small country newspaper. Conclusion is that multiple secondary significant independent sources do not exist and shall never exist. I have made this change unilaterally as I believe it uncontroversial, but the above would be the basis for an AfD nomination if required. Aspirex (talk) 22:17, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
